  • NEWS FROM WASHINGTON DC! GCE team members from the Armed Forces Retirement Home gathered to celebrate all they have accomplished over the past year, both as individuals but also as a team. GCE team members provide the food and custodial services at this wonderful establishment in DC, and we are blessed to have a great partnership with the administration/staff onsite. The celebration was for National Disability Employment Awareness Month and the team took advantage and used a spooky theme for the event. By raising awareness and equal employment for people with disabilities, we can ensure that people with disabilities have every opportunity to excel at their workplace. Inclusion does matter and meaningful work opportunities is important to everyone. #NDEAM #disabilityemployment #inclusionmatters

  • Congratulations to GCE team member Anthony Peer! Anthony works on our food service contract at Naval Station Newport in Rhode Island. Recently, he was able to acquire his driver's license for the state of Rhode Island. This was a personal goal for Anthony, and we are so happy to share his success as a newly minted driver. He never let his disability stop him and put in the work to make this dream come true. His second goal was to buy a car once he got his license. We are happy to report that through his diligence in saving money he just sealed the deal on that purchase! Wonderful news and well-done Anthony!

  • News from Tennessee! GCE was nominated and WON as the employer of the year for Region 5 in the state of Tennessee. Thank you to John Johnson, Tennessee Vocational Rehabilitation Career Training Coordinator (VR) and Sellitia Johnson, Department of Human Services Supervisor (DHS) for nominating GCE for this award. GCE was nominated due to our recruiting and outreach efforts to include the number of vocational rehabilitation clients hired at our Tennessee contract sites. Region 5 covers middle Tennessee, which includes Nashville and surrounding communities. A special thank you to Jim Beasley, GCE Recruiting and Outreach Coordinator, for your hard work and dedication to our mission. This nomination was in large part due to your efforts with our partners at VR and DHS in Tennessee. #NDEAM #VocationalRehabilitation

  • On October 17th, GCE team members Stephen Sandquist, Aaron Oath, and Betty Geren attended a Project Search event in Fairbanks, Alaska. "Great connections were made, to include meeting some parents. We were able to share with them the work of GCE and how we would be able to offer transportation, if needed by their son or daughter, to our contract site at Eielson Air Force Base," said Betty Geren, GCE Senior Director of Operations. Project Search is a national program aimed at helping students with disabilities transition from school to the workplace. It provides real-world work experiences and supports the development of necessary job skills to be successful after high school graduation. This transition-to-work program is a one-year program that takes place at the workplace. There is classroom instruction, career exploration, and hands on training through worksite rotations. GCE is proud to take part in this program to help young people with significant disabilities get the skills they need to be successful.
