"Forge Nano appears to have the most-developed technology. The company recently announced that its subsidiary, Forge Battery, has begun sending samples of a prototype battery cell made with ALD-coated materials to customers for testing. Forge Nano says its proprietary ALD formulation, which it calls Atomic Armor, makes batteries’ electrodes better at storing energy and helps them last longer." Forge Nano recently spoke with IEEE about the benefits of Atomic Armor nanocoatings in the battery market. Read more about how fabricators of anodes and cathodes to Tier 1 battery suppliers, and even electric-vehicle manufacturers are exploring #ALDep in future battery production. https://lnkd.in/dwPmBFwM

Forge Battery was honored to host U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Deputy Secretary David Turk and U.S. Representative for North Carolina Deborah Ross to discuss the expansion and community impact of our Morrisville lithium-ion Gigafactory. With Forge Battery's recent selection for a $100M award negotiation with the U.S Department of Energy, the team is not only expanding the production capacity of our facility. We have partnered with the best and brightest in the Raleigh region to ensure the local community can benefit from our future success. Forge CEO Paul Lichty and COO Don Kaiser sat down with a handful of our community benefits partners to showcase the impact Forge Battery intends to deliver to the Raleigh area as a result of the recent grant funding announcement. We look forward to continuing to update the Department of Energy on our progress in building best-in-class lithium-ion batteries and working closely with our partners to create positive impact in our local community. Thanks to Wake Technical Community College for hosting our discussion, and to the Town of Morrisville and Dorcas Ministries for participating in the event!

Can a few nanometers of material really have an impact on your #additivemanufacturing feedstock? See for yourself!   With FormNext only a couple weeks away, we partnered with Aconity3D GmbH to show the passivation effect of #ALDep on the oxidation of Ti64 powder at elevated temperatures. In this timelapse, uncoated and ALD-coated Ti64 powder are heated to 500 °C and held for 15 minutes. Even in a high-temperature and oxygen-rich environment, the ALD-coated powder shows no visible signs of oxidation.   Oxidation control of metal feedstocks helps to maintain powder specs for longer, giving you more printing cycles per batch of powder, and ensures consistency from print-to-print.   The Forge Nano team will highlight this Ti64 solution and more at Formnext from November 19-22. Be sure to stop by Booth C03 in Hall 11 to learn more or email marketing@forgenano.com to set up a meeting!   Big thanks to Aconity3D for their collaboration and video production!

📰 New paper just dropped from our awesome customers at IMTEK, University of Freiburg! What better way to enjoy your morning coffee than with a side of piping hot new #ALDep results? Pt/C catalysts are the the leading choice of active material for proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells in the heavy-transport sector. However, these materials suffer from many degradation mechanisms, limiting their stability and lifetime. In pursuit of longer-lasting and higher-performing Pt/C catalysts, a team of researchers at University of Freiburg have utilized atomic layer deposition to deposit Pt nanoparticles on porous carbon supports. Using the Forge Nano Prometheus fluidized bed reactor, the team has shown: - A method for synthesizing narrow distributions of highly dispersed Pt particles - 64% more electrochemically active surface sites due to high dispersion of Pt nanoparticles - 34% improved cell performance retention compared to commercially available catalysts after 30,000 accelerated stress test cycles The results from this study exemplify the power of ALD to synthesize highly stable and effective catalyst materials. With the Forge Nano Prometheus reactor, IMTEK plans to further scale the process, paving the way for commercial production of catalysts with ALD. Congrats to the whole team for their fantastic results! We are excited to see the Prometheus coming through in a big way. Read the full paper here: https://lnkd.in/dGtAyXQa #catalysis #fuelcells
