Greeley has long prioritized the safety and quality of its water, taking a proactive approach to address potential risks. With the recent announcement of the EPA's Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI), Greeley is well-prepared to meet these new federal requirements, thanks to its ongoing efforts through the Lead Protection Program. On October 8, the Environmental Protection Agency announced a landmark rule called the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements (LCRI). It requires water utilities to proactively replace water service lines that contain lead within 10 years. The new rule strengthens requirements for locating lead pipes, improving testing for lead in water and ensuring that exposure is minimized while lead water service lines are being replaced. Keri Fishlock, the project manager for Greeley’s Lead Protection Program, said “Many of our lead service lines have already been replaced as part of previous projects. We are focused on verifying the status of every water service line in the city and replacing all remaining service lines that may contain lead.” Greeley Water customers can complete a questionnaire about their water service line material, which helps the city schedule service line replacements and complete an inventory of over 29,000 water service lines. Per the EPA's 2021 Lead and Copper Rule Revision, Greeley Water customers can utilize an interactive map to search for their property and see their service line material at https://lnkd.in/gRdgmuhH. The city replaces water service lines found to contain lead at no cost to the homeowner and provides free water pitcher filters for up to six months following a service line replacement.

On Friday, October 4, Greeley's Community Development department hosted the Sunrise Neighborhood Resource Fair, bringing together multiple city departments to showcase free and low-cost services available to residents. This collaborative event allowed the community to explore resources that contribute to a better quality of life in Greeley. One of the highlights of the event was the Dream, Play, Build Workshop, led by James Rojas and John Kamp. These two presenters stayed in Northern Colorado after the Colorado APA Conference—where Greeley’s At Home in Greeley project received an award—to host this creative, hands-on workshop for our residents. Through the use of everyday objects, color and imagination, participants created visual representations of their favorite childhood memories, then envisioned how they could shape the future of the Sunrise neighborhood. The workshop fostered community connections and innovative ideas for building a safe, healthy and thriving neighborhood for generations to come. Thank you to everyone who joined us. Events like this remind us that when we work together and share our stories, we create a stronger, more vibrant community for all. #CommunityDevelopment #Greeley #GreeleyColorado #SunriseNeighborhood #DreamPlayBuild #CommunityEngagement #PublicService #GreeleyGrowth

The City of Greeley has kicked off the Poudre River Restoration Initiative (PRRI), a project that will improve the health of the Poudre River, boost economic growth and enhance residents' access. Since the 1950s, the Poudre River in Greeley has faced challenges like flooding, bank erosion and increased sediments. PRRI will address these issues with a focus on: ● Better water quality ● More plants and wildlife ● Protecting infrastructure from floods ● Preserving the river's heritage ● Strengthening Greeley's economy This project is a collaboration between Greeley's Public Works, Water and Sewer, Natural Areas and Trails and expert partners like Inter-Fluve and Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates Inc., alongside key community stakeholders like Coalition for the Poudre River Watershed, Weld County Government and Colorado Parks and Wildlife. We're excited to see how this initiative will transform the Poudre River as a community anchor in Greeley. How do you want to enjoy the Poudre River in Greeley? The City of Greeley is proud to highlight the collaborative efforts of local organizations working to connect our community with nature through storytelling and exploration. The new children's book, “My Great Adventure with Nana”, beautifully illustrated by Armando Silva, brings the magic of adventuring in the outdoors to life through a child's eyes. This project was made possible thanks to support from Trust for Public Land, Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO), and our local partners at the High Plains Library District and Weld Community Foundation . Together, we’re committed to making nature more accessible and engaging for all by promoting outdoor experiences at Greeley’s natural areas. This book, available at various libraries in the region, is just one of the ways we’re encouraging families to explore the outdoors and appreciate the rich wildlife and landscapes Greeley has to offer. We are also hosting A Day of Adventure event at Greeley's newest natural area on October 5, featuring a live reading of "My Great Adventure with Nana," which was inspired by this natural area, along with a nature scavenger hunt and guided trail walks, encouraging families to experience the beauty of our local landscapes firsthand. By fostering these partnerships, we’re helping to preserve our natural spaces while inspiring the next generation to embrace the beauty and adventure that can be found right here in our community. #Greeley #GreeleyColorado #ColoradoOutdoors #GreeleyPartnerships #CommunityCollaboration #OutdoorExploration #PublicSpaces
