As the leading provider of mobile mental health treatment in New York City, we serve 750 clients a year with psychiatric care, counseling, crisis intervention, housing support, benefits enrollment, employment services and court advocacy. CASES interdisciplinary teams meet people who cannot access traditional clinic-based care on the streets and in shelters with the support they need to build better lives. Studies show that the mobile treatment models used by CASES lower hospitalizations and substance use, increase housing rates, and have higher patient and family satisfaction than traditional forms of mental health treatment. At a fraction of the cost of incarceration and involuntary treatment, mobile behavioral health is an essential component of any approach to creating true community safety. #MobileTreatment #MentalHealth #AlternativesToIncarceration #TreatmentNotJail #CommunitiesNotCages #CloseRikers

Early voting starts this Saturday in NYC! Don't forget to flip your ballot and vote "NO" on Proposals 2-6. These propositions represent a power grab by the executive branch of city government and would make it harder to hold the NYPD and the Department of Corrections accountable. We need to make it easier, not harder, to create the reforms that will make our city truly safe for all New Yorkers. Visit www.nycvotes.org for more information on voting in NYC. #NoPowerGrabNYC #Nix2Through6

TODAY: Youth Justice Speak Out in St. Mary's Park in the Bronx at 3pm. Giveaways and snacks will be provided. All youth and community members are welcome! October is Youth Justice Action Month. We're raising awareness of two youth justice bills: the Youth Interrogation Act or "Right2RemainSilent" (S1099A-Bailey/A8923A-Hevesi) and the Youth Justice & Opportunities Act (S5749A-Myrie/A3536A-O'Donnell). These bills calling for early access to counsel for all youth under 18 years old and strengthening our youth justice laws are pivotal for keeping young New Yorkers safe and protected. CASES newSTART Substance Use Specialist and Peer Robert Porcelli joined a panel at The Riverside Church on the Campaign to Close Rikers. Roger supports people who are trapped in a cycle of frequent short jail stays because of unmet needs. He and his fellow newSTART team members connect clients to housing, medical care, mental health and substance use treatment, and other essential services so they can stop the cycle and achieve their goals. Expanding the use of safe, cost-effective alternatives to incarceration like newSTART is an essential component of the plan to close Rikers by 2027. "I lead the CASES Nathaniel Assertive Community Treatment (NACT) Team, the nation’s first alternative-to-incarceration program for people with felony charges related to serious mental illness (SMI). For over two decades, we have proven that successful recovery and reintegration are highly likely when people receive appropriate, evidence-based community support – in fact, 100 percent of our clients, many of whom are court mandated through the Brooklyn and Manhattan Mental Health Courts, have no new violent felony convictions in the two years after program completion."
