✨ Building Connections for Women in Private Equity ✨ We had the pleasure of hosting an afternoon lunch for women in private equity across the Bay Area. Over great food at Cotogna, attendees from nine PE firms joined Carta CMO Nicole Baer and our PE team to share experiences, build community, and discuss the future of the industry. Senior Policy Counsel Holli Heiles Pandol offered insight into how the 2024 elections may impact private markets, bringing years of Capitol Hill and SEC experience to the table. Private equity deserves fresh approaches to traditional challenges, and Carta is here to help streamline and bring transparency to the field. We're proud to build opportunities and connections for women in PE—helping the industry grow stronger together.

Don’t let it spook you, but employee ownership at PE-backed companies is creeping along more slowly these days. From 2019 to 2022, the number of new employee stakeholders rose each year. Things changed in 2023 and H1 2024, however, after a significant deceleration in private equity deal volume. Fewer companies getting acquired by PE has meant that fewer new equity grants have been issued by PE-backed companies. The number of new employee stakeholders in 2023 was 17,494—a 35% decrease in comparison to 2019. Despite the slow down in growth, more stakeholders than ever are receiving ownership interests from PE-backed businesses on Carta. As of Q2 2024, over 382,000 stakeholders across Carta’s 2,700-plus PE-backed businesses had received ownership interests of some kind. This figure has effectively doubled in the four years since Q2 2020 as a result of both Carta’s growing market share and a rise in the issuance of interests. So, while PE-backed companies are creating more employee owners, it’s at a much slower rate than before. For more, check out our recent report on private equity ownership trends. Meet Nathália Garcia, a enablement content specialist at Carta 🤝 When she’s not assisting Carta’s law firm partners with client requests, Nathália is reading anything she can get her hands on. Besides reading novels, Nathália has been putting together a collection of art, photography and architecture books which is why she’s been loving Carta’s book reimbursement policy. “‘Travels with Epicurus: A Journey to a Greek Island in Search of a Fulfilled Life’ by Daniel Klein is a book about a man who decides to discover the secrets of aging after a mundane visit to his dentist. I’d recommend this book to anyone who is seeking to find the beauty in life through the connections we make and not the material possessions we own. For me, this book put into perspective that in order to live a full life, we don’t need a lot and I hope others who read it will be able to resonate with this lesson, too.” Carta’s book reimbursement policy allows Cartans to consume books of all forms and topics, and fully reimburses their cost. 📚 #LifeAtCarta #BookClub #BookRecommendation
