Thanks for providing free Election Day rides, CapMetro! Yes, the bus is in traffic too, but thanks to free WiFi on board I can make use of that time and be productive. #TDM #Austin #commute #transit
Capital Metro is the public transportation provider for over 1.3 million people in the Austin region. Our mission is to connect people and communities to jobs and opportunities, and our vision is to transform the daily lives of Texans. We provide a variety of transit services, including MetroBus, MetroRail, UT Shuttles, Pickup and MetroAccess, to meet the ever-growing needs of the Austin community. To serve the Austin of today and tomorrow, we’re working on Project Connect, the largest investment our region has ever made. The November 2020 voter approval of this transformative program will bring light rail service that changes the way Austinites move around the city, new MetroRapid routes that better serve East Austin and great regional service for the entire area. Join us in our mission to build a better Austin. At CapMetro, find work that works for you ~ It’s a thing around here!

Thank you CapMetro for inviting Workforce Solutions Capital Area to participate in the Transit Plan Stakeholder Workshop. 🎉 I appreciated the opportunity to share insights on what should be considered for Transit Plan 2035. A highlight for me was playing Transit Land, where I got to step into the shoes of a transit planner. 🚌 It really showcased how challenging it is to balance the diverse needs of a community with limited resources. #TransitPlan2035 #CommunityPlanning

Today, we remember Alfred Webb Senior, former ATU Local 1091 President and CapMetro operator. Mr. Webb’s accomplishments have improved public transit in Central Texas and include: • He began his career in 1970 under CapMetro’s predecessor, Austin Transit. • Served as the first Black President of ATU 1091 beginning in 1972. • Laid the groundwork for the first Extra Board for transit operators. • Negotiated the first provision for overtime and after 40 hours. Mr. Webb is survived by a large, loving family who continue to champion his incredible legacy as an advocate for our frontline men and women. On behalf of all CapMetro—past, present and future—Thank you, Alfred! 💙

Congrats to our Planning and ETOD teams for receiving the Advancing Diversity and Social Change award, and to to #CapMetro Board Member Leslie Pool for receiving the Planning Advocate Award from the American Planning Association - Texas Chapter! CapMetro, in partnership with the City of Austin, spearheaded the ETOD Study to integrate future transportation investments with tools and policies focused on community preservation and economic access. This groundbreaking project emphasizes equity, prioritizes underrepresented voices, and aligns transit and housing strategies across multiple agencies. With housing limited by an outdated land development code, Leslie Pool and her District 7 team built a coalition of the public and private sector planning professionals needed to effect change. The coalition and community groups crafted HOME (Home Options for Mobility and Equity). The plan offered more housing types and smaller lot options for a denser, more walkable and resilient city. Today, we celebrated White Cane Day at Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. It was a wonderful event that brought our community together to raise awareness about the significance of the white cane. We focused on the crucial themes of accessibility, safety and inclusivity. Participants shared experiences and insights, highlighting the ongoing need for greater public understanding and support for white cane users. The event is a powerful reminder of how essential it is to create a more inclusive society for individuals with visual impairments. We're grateful to everyone who joined us in making this important day a continuing conversation about accessibility in our community. More about White Cane Day in TX: whitecaneday.org
