On this #InternationalDayofAwarenessofFoodLossandWaste, we’re highlighting how plastic food packaging helps prevent #foodwaste and spoilage – reducing greenhouse gas emissions and allowing people without access to proper food storage to eat safely. Prolonged shelf life and transport protection can help prevent food from spoiling quickly and the correct packaging can limit damage and reduce the amount of food that is thrown away. For example, millions of pounds of meat are wasted every year due to spoilage. The plastic industry continues to innovate to fix meat spoilage through vacuum-sealed plastic packaging that prevents meat oxidation. The correct packaging can double meat's shelf life and reduce spoilage. To improve the #recyclability of plastic food packaging, we recently partnered with Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company, Inc. to develop MXD6, a high-performance barrier solution for thermoformed articles and plastic tubes, jars, and bottles that is fully recyclable up to 12%. MXD6 is an alternate barrier to Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol (EVOH) that has received Critical Guidance recognition from the Association of Plastics Recyclers, validating its compatibility with the polypropylene recycling stream. We’re committed to helping each customer make transformative leaps toward their goals and solve whatever challenges come next in their business. To improve the #sustainability of packaging while preserving quality and safety, Berry supplies a wide range of beverage closures as well as lightweight food and beverage bottles to supply the private label market. We recently collaborated with our long-time partner Lassonde to incorporate 25% post-consumer recycled, or #PCR, content into its private label lemon and lime juice bottle, which is now widely recyclable and optimized to be lightweight. This move to more #sustainablepackaging helped the food and beverage leader reduce the bottle’s carbon footprint by ~15% and decrease the amount of plastic entering the waste stream, helping keep materials in use and out of the environment. On September 3rd, we had the pleasure of hosting a visit from Pierre Fabre Group our esteemed French customer at our Leamington Spa facility. Our collaboration with Sterile Cosmetics® leverages our patented Exclusive Intact Formula Device (DEFI) system, which helps ensure products remain uncontaminated throughout their use. This innovative technology is a cornerstone of our commitment to delivering high-quality, safe, and effective cosmetic packaging solutions. During the visit, Pierre Fabre’s Chief Operating Officer, Vincent Huraux, learned more about Berry’s #sustainabilityefforts – particularly around our ability to transform plastic waste into high-quality products. Additionally, we discussed how the vertical integration of post-consumer recycled (#PCR) content exemplifies our commitment to advancing a #circulareconomy while helping our customers in reduce their #carbonfootprint.
