Ask the Recruiter Series... Client question: AI is a HOT topic right now! What are some pros & cons of using AI in the hiring process? Executive Search Consultant Ashley Radca responds: AI can be a powerful tool for efficiently reviewing resumes, scheduling interviews, and data/analytics. But there are also downfalls. Here are a few suggestions for how to use AI effectively. Pros: - Better analytics - Automated systems can produce more data than manual processes - Reduce workload – By using AI for analyzing resumes, scheduling interviews, and other communications with candidates - Improve candidate experience – By shortening the hiring cycle, candidates will be more informed of where they are in the interview process Cons: - Lack of human touch – Using AI to communicate with candidates does not allow for candidates to experience company culture during the interview process - Risk of bias – It is crucial to monitor and audit AI tools to avoid the possibility of missing out on qualified candidates - AI errors – If AI is trained on historical data biases, using AI may perpetuate those biases, moving forward (IE, Hiring more men than women historically may make AI favor men, etc.) - Possible compliance issues - Some states are creating laws for how HR can use AI It is important to remember that while AI can be a powerful hiring tool, it does not replace the human element.
