Based on my experience working with small-holder farmers, firstly you need to understand the stakeholders' priorities and needs, you should not make plans from your office without engaging with them. Secondly, build a transparent dialogue and set measurable goals and clear milestones. Last but not least, keep the community informed through workshops and educational programs.

Shared Goals: Align project objectives with stakeholders’ interests for mutual benefits. 6. Capacity Building: Provide training to empower stakeholders and enhance community skills. 7. Recognize and Address Concerns: Respond promptly to stakeholder concerns to demonstrate commitment.

I have found it helps to start by engaging stakeholders early in the process through open and transparent communication. Listen to their concerns and incorporate their feedback into your project plans. Demonstrate respect for local knowledge and expertise by involving community leaders and local organisations in decision-making. Provide regular updates on project progress and be transparent about challenges and successes. Show commitment to the community by addressing their specific needs and aligning your project goals with their interests. Foster long-term relationships by maintaining ongoing dialogue and collaboration. By prioritising transparency, respect, and inclusion, you can build trust and collaboration with local stakeholders.

Local context is vital. Don't assume you know best. Understand their needs and the barriers they face. Understand and focus on how they can truly benefit. Speak their language, not just literally but figurately too.

I have already worked extensively on dialogue with regional communities and populations impacted by operations, so it is very important to include an initial stage in any project planning to establish relationships with community leaders. Unfortunately, many companies are more concerned with the regulatory scope, mandatory documents, economic viability analysis, environmental impact, but forget the most important thing, the social impact.

Actively listening to concerns, feedback, and expectations, leaders can demonstrate empathy and understanding, thereby establishing a foundation of mutual respect. By frequently updating stakeholders with clear and regular updates regarding the project's accomplishments, difficulties, and progress. Through transparent communication, you explain the project's objectives, advantages, and possible effects for any onward adjustment, using languages that are clear and easily comprehensible. Not having an understanding of regional signs and symbols, understanding the ancestral importance of local populations with the territory, can lead to disastrous actions in the implementation of regional operations. An advance study, the involvement of NGOs and specialized professionals, can help companies to avoid committing local historical-cultural erasure. Establishing and maintaining ongoing relationships with local leaders and communities is important to establish sincere bonds with these stakeholders.

Balancing all of the things is important to build relationships, remember, one big life, it’s not just work life, but every single little aspect of your life, your day. You are worthy! Managerial but also technical, financial, reporting etc) so that information keeps flowing and learnings are passed on, even as individuals move on.
