How do you motivate your team to work harder when taking on a new client?

Feedback and recognition is critical to motivate a team, but often falls by the way side, when the mentality is, it’s part of your job. Everyone needs some level of recognition and thanks, it’s the little thank you’s and genuine support, that makes the work worthwhile. Start by asking, how someone wants to be recognized, a quiet thanks or a big team announcement, means something different to each person.

It aligns the team's efforts, providing a shared vision and a tangible target to aim for. Realistic goals ensure that the objectives are achievable, preventing burnout and maintaining morale. Moreover, clear goals help in measuring progress and success, fostering a sense of accomplishment. Motivating my team when bringing on a new client is not been a huge issue for me and my leadership. We really start the process of getting them pumped up while we are in the proposal process. We set very clear definitions of who is a great target client for us. We tend to be all hands on board when rolling out our proposal. We have a kick off call that again we involve all team members who will be part of that clients solution. We keep the team members not only engaged but we also have mini milestones to be met during the onboarding. It is key to set mile stones and clear objectives of what needs to be done for each client and their projects.

Feedback and Recognition are two important pillars for any employees. In this context, being a new client their expectation on hiring a resource will be something which will be requiring to figure out. During the process there can be failures, sharing the feedback on where we went wrong and what should be done next is very important which can help the team to make next move the best as well as appreciating the team for putting whole and soul effort in converting the opportunity to job will give them motivation to do better everyday. Working hard does enough without adding smartness. It seems like a salt-less dish. Don't directly influence the employees to work hard; identify their motivational factors and what they are expecting in the future from the company or organisation; influence them to eloborate the benefits they get and the advantages to the team with new clients in terms of job security,promotions, etc.; any individual can be attracted by gifts and recognitions in between the colleagues set targes; recognise the employees and offer incentives and bonuses; create a positive work environment; build a great meaningful relationship with the team; track their progress; make them submit their progress report every month; and influence by inspiration.

Simple things such as ensuring quick turnaround time, and setting very clear client expectations, go a long way in successfully on-boarding a new client! Most clients aren’t looking for innovative solutions but the right ones…delivered as promised!
