This is a must when designing for areas that interact between communities and the environment. We were a part of a 6 month community and stakeholders engagement process on a recent project in Southern California. Each community is different and looking for different ways to use and interact with spaces and structures. Designs should not only be functional but embrace and work with heritage and story. For example, the city we’re working with has a unique surfing culture. We heard first hand from talking to people what a successful outcome (and a kind of roadmap to get there) might look like. This is critical feedback which feeds into the design and implementation processes. Communities understand their environments and have valuable insights
