I believe that this point lays the foundation for all the others. While you are navigating the day to day, you should document accomplishments/showing initiative, and being able to collaborate with others. Bring this document outlining these accomplishments so you can easily refer back to them during the conference. Chatting often with peers and evaluating the feedback loop can also set you (and your team) up for optimal success.

As one works on leadership projects, performance improvement, and other such achievements at work, maintaining a table or incorporating these items into your own personal strategic plan is a great way to showcase what you have accomplished at the performance evaluation. So often we do a lot, but looking back we are unable to recall all the milestones and goals we achieved. If we document them, track them, they are then easy to share at critical times, such as this.

This is spot on. As a leader, I can resonate with this. I am always prepared not to just list my achievements (which can come across as bragging). However, I ensure I tell my story and how it relates to the theme of the conference or topic at hand. Weaving it around such would be very impactful to not only the audience but yourself. So preparing thoroughly for this is very essential for a successful leadership at a conference

Well articulated ideas do not only create engagement but it enables the audience to contribute to what is been discussed in the auditorium. It is a skill I have mastered and at every given opportunity, I take the opportunity in learning. There will always be different routes of engaging with the audience.

Clear communication not only starts with listening or reading what is presented, but asking questions to fill in any gaps in what was presented, then finding a link for you to start upon.

Communication! Communication! Communicating clearly while articulating,, when laying the ground rules of work expectations and accomplishing tasks as a team. This includes soliciting feedback from your peers and staff on how to effectively work together via communication. What sets me apart from other leaders is by leading by example. I will never communicate to my staff, about tasks or items that I've never done my self. This includes recreation programs in my day to day.

In a previous position I was in charge of training one department, I however took it one step further by assisting others in different departments. This not only built trust and credibility, but also improved the culture of the company.

I always encourage my mentees to ask questions, no matter how silly they may seem. I would rather consult a colleague or a guideline before making a decision swiftly trying to avoid shame for not knowing the answer. A good leader may not know all the answers but they may know how to find them.

In my current position, my co-workers considered me to be the "go to person", because according to them. I will always be there to help them with any tasks or items they need. This creates harmony and foster trust in working as a team.

There is a saying that if you want to go faster, go alone. But if you want to go further, go in a team. I am a big advocate of collaboration over competition. The reason is that there will be more succinct benefits in collaborative leadership than an individualistic approach to solving problems. This has been a backbone to most of my leadership positions and it has proved successful to my team and myself

One man does not know everything, but put 100 people in a room and you get a sea of knowledge. However, since you are in a sea, don't let others drown because they cannot swim, but instead grab ahold of them and encourage them to stay afloat. The one that drowns might not have the knowledge of swimming, but they might be able to build a boat to save the rest.

Teamwork makes the dream work! In previous positions, I had an opportunity to work in a team developing part time staff, in a Part Time Enhancement Career Program project. This allowed me to enhance my skills as a leader by leading by example, and facilitate training in a team. I was able to share my past experiences with participants in the program, while participants were encouraged by diverse career ideas, and successfully completed the program.

One thing I have found helpful and have shared with many mentees is that there is no shame in having areas to work on. Everyone on the planet has something to work on. When you reflect on growth areas instead of becoming discouraged, recognize that these areas are often the backside of your superpowers. For example, if you are a driven person with a high capacity to get things done, then the backside of that might be impatience. Understanding the potential backside of your strengths allows you to be watchful and employ tools to mitigate negative impacts. Identify a couple of people who are committed to your success and who will provide honest and specific feedback. Lastly, avail yourself of their feedback and solicit it. All the best!

I have found reflection has proportionate to my growth in leadership. Reflecting shouldn’t only happen when things are falling apart. It should be an adapted culture that should be encouraged when things even going well as a leader. Knowing what you are doing right to keep you in the game is very important as it helps you to know the secret of keeping you in the game without being struck out of it.

I have found that the only way to develop and grow is to take weaknesses, and utilize it as a learning opportunity. I am an advocate of soliciting feedback to support my team in improving team work and processes. My team mates and I always hold each other accountable to highest standard, by being coachable and adaptable. Another important factor, is believe when someone tells you, "don't second guess" decisions or one-self, because how else are you going to grow your weaknesses into potential strength.

All of the above are probably relevant but not critical. If you are in a performance review you have better have anticipated negative comments. Self defense is best conducted by preemptively addressing issues so that you own the agenda
