In my line of work, tackling procrastination starts with breaking tasks into smaller, manageable chunks and setting clear deadlines. Prioritize tasks by impact, and celebrate small wins to keep momentum!

you have to understand what makes you procrastinate. Different people have different needs. Some needs attention, some needs inspirations, some needs push while others need micro management. It is important to the task giver to profile his subordinates on his capabilities, capacity and availability. The task giver can make it easy or can make it impossible to accomplish. Remember; the results of the subordinates is also the results of the supervisor.

Breaking down large projects into smaller ones is indeed beneficial. Large projects can be overwhelming, making them difficult to understand and execute. This approach is not only psychologically helpful but also practical, as it minimizes the accumulation of errors by allowing for better tracking of each smaller project. Additionally, it enhances focus and productivity on the tasks at hand.

Manufacturing Engineers (ME) are usually involved in the creation of the manufacturing process, which breakdowns the process into sequential operations, including machining, fitting, inspecting, forming, welding, cleaning etc. The ME needs to support the process during manufacturing in order to establish capability, confirm conformance at each stage and understand capacity of shopfloor and work force. Overtime, with familiarity and experience decisions become quicker in real time.

Just to make you up and running- try finishing first low hanging fruits. It will give you a sense of accomplishment and make you level up to the next challenges. Bigger task might dissappoint you if you fail to accomplish it first.

include time buffer, this will give you ample time for resolutions on issues encountered. Make a plan B for task which has a potential failure. Make a commitment for success but never ignore the abort criteria.

Begin with the end in mind. Make sure all steps you are taking are link to the objective. Otherwise, it is a waste or an effort loss. Let your company's values and principles guide you in all of your actions.

An ideal ME team will comprise people who have natural preference towards: * Planning and preparation * People and promotions * Projects and proposals * Pace and pulse Each of these preferences will come to the fore at different stages of the project and process e.g. Planners will evalute the data and assess risks , People pleasers will motivate the team, Projectors will provide constructive and critical solutions for new projects and the Pacers, will make the difficult and take action in a timely manner with their preference for being direct. Remember these behavioural styles are based on preferences, we all have the ability to flex to different styles, making the ME team more effective because certain tasks suit different styles.

What I experienced till now, Leveraging technology now days much needed to overcoming procrastination in a manufacturing engineering role. Tools like project management software, automated scheduling, and real-time data analytics help keep tasks organized, deadlines clear, and priorities visible. These technologies can reduce the mental load of tracking complex projects, making it easier to stay focused and productive. By providing reminders, tracking progress, and automating repetitive tasks, technology can minimize distractions and ensure that key tasks are completed on time, ultimately enhancing overall efficiency and performance.
