Model positive behaviours and soon others will follow. Model negative behaviours and it will be the same with the opposite effect. Every leader at every level can do it. Although it seems self-evident, it is your actions and not your words that are measured by others. Your actions, of course, are those things you do repeatedly, almost autonomously every day, and sometimes the leader forgets what actions they are modelling day over day. Not every day will be exactly as you imagined, but persistence and thoughtfulness will pay off. What are you modelling?

Team success is the ultimate achievement when you hear the phrase there is no Eye in team. It is actually a correct statement. It takes everyone to make a ship roll straight so in essence the team working together in Unis is the pathway to success and ultimate goal achievement

Teamwork, truly does make the dream work. This is a phrase often repeated, but is the concept of teamwork, truly being implemented by the leader? Many believe this means that everyone need to have input on everything all the time. This is not the case, but rather empowering the group to get the best out of each other, while still meeting the practical realities of task. Leaders play such a critical role in getting the most out of every team member and it starts with the leader modelling the behaviour. However, as leaders we have to ask ourselves: does the team get enough of the credit when there is success? If it fails, who takes that responsibility? Often leaders can over or under emphasize the importance of the team’s contributions.

The team is really key to a businesses success. Being willing to step in and assist when things are overloading and showing them that you have their backs is really important. I work to empower my team to provide feedback so that they know they are heard, even if the final outcome may not be what they desired. Its also important for them to know that I am vested in their success, even if that means not being on my team. I will help them achieve their goals.

These ones change the culture and fabric of an organization. I always encourage every one on the team to consider what they do and how it might be improved. Some changes will require broader buy-in, others, people can choose to make. I have always stated that the magnitude of the change is not as important as it’s ability to be implemented successful. Knowing you need to change and being able to do it are two very different things. But it can start with one person identifying a better way to complete something.

I think effective communication begins with the idea that the individuals who are part of your team come from different backgrounds and experiences, and thus the different perspectives. It is when you have a better understanding of each individual that you can have real and meaningful communication with them, individually or in a group. In our chat group recently, it took a while before people were able to honestly expresses their understanding of certain things and how they feel about it. I haven’t met some of them in person, yet based on the conversation we’ve had, if you’re just patient enough to engage them, you’ll have a better understanding of them—where they’re coming from and why they take the position they have chosen.

Strategic vision is important, and so somebody must have it and articulate it, but if too many have it, it can produce utter chaos. It falls to the leader at the highest level to have and articulate this vision and subordinate leaders need to shape their actions and those of their team to achieve it. If everyone is trying to implement their own “vision” then it provides too much uncertainty, confusion and chaos.
