This exposure can challenge your preconceived notions. 5. Mindful Questioning: When forming an opinion, ask yourself why you think a certain way. Challenge your assumptions and consider alternative viewpoints.

I love to have a team member who is a doubter. This person asks me questions all day, no matter if the questions are reasonable or not. It keeps me curious and reminds me of reflecting my decisions, or maybe even change them.

One way to kill biases is to ask "How/Why" questions. Mark Twain reminds us that it's not what we don't know that get's us into trouble, but that it's what we know for sure, that isn't so." As a consultant familiarity is relied upon so that my clients are reassured that I am well versed in their industry-specific needs. However, none of this is truly effective is there isn't a value of "curiosity" at the wheel. I can retain volumes of information. If I only relied on that reservoir, I'm not serving my clients. Reservoirs are where we place all of our biases. It's the foundation to all of our "I Know" statements/responses. But everything changes when we embrace "I don't know", and lean into curiosity and ask the important How/Why questions.

By prioritizing what’s best for the client, even if it’s challenging, we ensure our advice remains unbiased and principled. Clear ethical guidelines help in consistently delivering trustworthy and effective strategies.
