I have written a book for young professionals especially young people starting out their careers. It is called the 10 commandments of Networking - One of those commandments is "Do not eat your cake until you have given it." And what this means is that you must have given value long enough to ask for a favour. It's more like saying, you cannot reap where you have not sown. Ensure you win people over by giving value first before asking in return. In most cases, I have not had to ask before it is given. People often feel obligated to return favours.

If you have met with these people in real life then take the time to find them online too. Make contact with them and let them know how much you enjoyed meeting with them and that you would love to keep in contact. Maybe arrange to meet with them again once you have built more of a relationship

It’s very easy to assume what people do until you really get to know more about them. I always offer a 121 with anyone I meet at networking to get to know someone better and understand more about their goals, their experience and what help they need from others to help them grow their business or progress personally and professionally. It’s also an opportunity to tell them what you need too. It often turns out to be such an inspiring and insightful conversation. One conversation can change everything and might just lead to that golden egg!
