To establish trust with physicians and achieve credibility, it is important that integrity leads the relationship. Be a resource that provides solutions or have a willingness to find an answer. My former, Executive VP, once said, "I don't know is never the answer". Be a resource with the understanding that their sole responsibility is to provide patient care. Be willing to go the distance and not waste their time with idle paper work that doesn't promote optimizing the needs of the patient, practice, and processes that move all parties forward.

There are several different ways to build report and credibility with a physician. I think it starts with an attitude. I have never had to carry the weight and responsibility of a patient's care, so I never act as if I have. I am not an equal, but I am the expert in the room on my company's device. So, know your stuff inside and out, but be humble; ask questions, and listen. If possible, observe surgical style (if surgeon) to learn about what they may need to know from you about your device. Sometimes you have time to build, but often you have to read the room and adjust accordingly, in 5 minutes! Finally, remember you're both in this for the betterment of the patient. Check your ego at the door. It's easier to start from common ground.

É fundamental entender que, após o evento ter acontecido, fica muito mais fácil comentar e criticar uma decisão. I’ve worked with physicians for many years and one thing is clear. Doctors like to get their questions answered directly. Be specific with your answers and be honest. Doctors respect getting truthful answers and if you can back it up with data they appreciate it even more.

In my experience direct and straightforward communication has been most successful. I find if there is room for interpretation within your communication there is more doubt.

At other times, it could be on account of knowledge limitations of what is important and what is not, however, specificity helps in addressing the exact issues.

Yes, I totally agree with this, feedbacks should be conveyed through effective communication which must not be judgmental. A good feedback should not be defeated with a wrong manner of approach and communication.

One thing I have found to be effective is to ask for advice. If I am discussing quality metrics with a physician, I don’t state “we need to remove the urinary catheter.” Instead I use, what are the benefits to leaving the urinary catheter in place? This engages the physician to provide their feedback on the reasons. I have found that this usually provides the desired outcome, but puts the physician in the drivers seat. I will also ask questions like “what assessment would you recommend my nurses focus in on with this patient?” This demonstrates a commitment to providing an individualized plan of care to the patient.

Make feedback a two-way conversation. Encourage physicians to share their thoughts and experiences to create a mutual understanding.

D'après mon expérience de pharmacien en établissement de santé, la base d’une relation professionnelle avec mes collègues médecins repose sur la communication. Celle çi doit être majoritairement directe sans passer par les outils de communication du quotidien comme par exemple le téléphone ou le mail. Quelques minutes en tête à tête sont bien plus productives. Ce contact direct suppose d’aller à la rencontre du médecin sur son lieu d’exercice et trouver le bon moment pour instaurer le dialogue.

D'après mon expérience, il faut trouver le bon moment pour avoir un maximum d’attention du médecin. De mon expérience j’ai ai déduit par exemple qu’un chirurgien est le plus accéssible entre deux interventions. Un médecin qui fait de la consultation devra être dérangé à un moment qui a le moins d’impact sur ses obligations

Une chose qui m’a été utile dans mon expérience est de comprendre qu’une relation professionnelle avec un médecin est basée sur une reconnaissance mutuelle de la spécialité et de la compétence de chacun. Il est également important de connaître les habitudes de pratique du médecin afin d’être le plus pertinent possible dans les échanges.

Être ouvert et réceptif au feedback ! Montrez aux médecins que vous êtes ouvert à leurs commentaires, même s'ils sont négatifs. Écoutez attentivement ce qu'ils ont à dire et ne les interrompez pas. Reformulez ce que vous avez entendu pour vous assurer que vous avez bien compris leur point de vue
