Para poder medir de forma adecuada el desempeño de nuestra estrategia, es necesario comprender que no todas las actividades van con todas las estrategias, porque de lo contrario podemos llegar a medir el desempeño de actividades que no aportan valor a nuestra estrategia y dejar de medir los que si aportan valor. Por ejemplo la cuota de mercado suele ser de más interés en las estrategias de liderazgo en costos, que en las de diferenciación por innovación, porque en esta última no se gana con el volumen o la participación en el mercado sino con los márgenes. Este ejemplo muestra la necesidad de priorizar las mediciones en sintonía con la estrategia de negocios elegida por la Alta Dirección.
