Balancing quality control and efficiency is a common challenge, but during my time at Maruti Suzuki, we found ways to manage both effectively. We aligned teams on common goals, ensuring everyone was clear on what success looked like for both quality and speed. Process audits helped us identify inefficiencies and improve workflows. Open communication between supplier and production teams was crucial for resolving issues early and collaboratively. By focusing on teamwork and data-driven improvements, we were able to maintain a balance between quality and efficiency.

The most important message that need to be given to the team is that quality will always create value that will drive the business and build a long term association with our customers. Efficiency on other hand is another important aspect that is required to build quality. Teams cannot ignore both the aspects and only rely on one element. Even if we have quality and don’t have efficiency, this will not drive the business for long. I like to highlight the trade I am currently associated with, there are many players that offer similar service at much competitive pricing but when it comes to quality & efficiency of the team, customers rely on us and depend on service. This is commitment that is built around these elements.

Finding balance is the key which will help in maintaining accuracy without sacrificing the efficiency needed. First, listen to both sides and understand their concern and highlight the impact of each approach in overall process. Gather and use data to show where inefficiency is affecting QC and vice versa. Divide the task in tiered QC system where higher risk go through more scrutiny while lower risk task goes through a much quicker process.
