One of the clients I worked with, a regional challenger brand, aimed to create extraordinary buzz around their rebranding. We developed a complex plan that included a soft launch strategy, involving the intentional leak to attract media attention and generate a wave of free publicity. The challenge came when managing the influx of media inquiries. To ensure the success of the rebranding campaign, we strategically redirected the focus towards the brand’s message: the discontinuation of a popular product & the launch of a more sustainable and efficient replacement. This approach exceeded our campaign goals & shifted the media attention effectively. In conclusion, leveraging negative tactics can be a powerful way to achieve positive outcomes.

Crisis is also an opportunity. Take advantage of this wave of attention to provide a unified response to the media, clearly explaining and articulating the rebranding and repositioning of the brand.

Acknowledge the Situation: Be transparent and acknowledge the leak. This helps build trust and shows that you are taking the situation seriously.
Prepare a Statement: Draft a clear and concise statement addressing the leak. Highlight the key points of your rebranding and the positive aspects of the changes.
Designate a Spokesperson: Choose a well-informed and articulate spokesperson to handle all media inquiries. Consistency in communication is crucial.
Monitor Media Coverage: Keep track of how the story is being covered and be ready to respond to any inaccuracies or further questions.

A leaked rebranding requires a swift and coordinated response. Establish a dedicated media response team to craft a unified, consistent message aligned with the company's strategic vision. Proactive media outreach, including exclusive interviews or press releases, can help shape the narrative. Direct, honest communication with journalists is essential for building trust. Leveraging social media to engage with audiences can mitigate negative impacts, while close monitoring of online conversations is crucial for identifying potential issues.
