What do you do if sustainability professionals need to adapt to a rapidly changing industry?

A SWOT Analysis is a great tool in the business strategy "toolbox." You can use this tool at a company or personal level. “SWOT” stands for strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. You can perform a SWOT analysis before you commit to any sort of action, whether you are exploring new credentials/licenses, revamping your skills, considering new job opportunities or perhaps changing a career path. By mapping out your current strengths and opportunities, you will be able to see what "niche" you best fit in. By analyzing your weaknesses and threats, you can consider upskilling and continuing your education to boost your chances of success. This will give you a 360 view of where you stand and allow you to decide what to focus on next.

Turbulent Environmental changes are necessary to be adaptive. Being a Chartered Accountant, I am very responsive to adopt new learnings and changes in the global perspective to remain effective in the market and among competitors. I set my goals and strategies effectively after applying SWOT and PESTEL analysis on Sustainability and changes. GAP analysis provide you the vision to focus on gaps to work on and produce effective knowledge how to cover that with sustainable strategies.

I agree with the SWOT idea of previous contributros - I would recommend translating the SWOT into a SWOT II or LIMA analysis as this makes the relevant SW to work on more obvious in light of your OT! AND Get feedback from people you trust around you. Ideally they trust you enought to give you honest feedback! If you feeling daring & grounded, consider getting feedback from someone you feel e little nervous about due to their reputation of franknes - that might be invaluable.

As Darwin proposed the theory of evolution "Survival of the fittest" we are now in an era where the fittest survive with the sustainability principles. Climate change being a bigger threat to humanity 'Sustainability' cannot be overlooked as a concept away from life, business and society which when applied can make life better. Sustainability is now part of every one's life, part of business and society. Sustainability is inclusiveness. Inclusive Growth encompassing all aspects like Environment, Social and Governance should be promoted across all parts of business. We take the resources from earth and give back the waste to the earth. It's time to understand her and give back her the much needed care.

A constructive challenge to the desctiption on the left: "You can also seek alignment with your organization's culture, goals, and strategies, and how they support sustainability." In my expreience corporate ESG change makers are wired to find gaps betwen between high level sustainability aspirations/targets/committments and every day realities. So rather than aligning their behaviours, they will advocate into the organisation to change its behaviours in order to fulfil their promises OR challenge to organisation to raise the bar of its comittments! Almost any large organisation & its people unconsciously & unintentionally undermine their aspirations. Making the gap visible at System, Symbol and Behaviour level and closing it is key.
