Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a counseling approach designed to facilitate and engage intrinsic motivation within the client in order to change behavior. MI is a goal-oriented, client-centered counseling style for eliciting behavior change by helping clients to explore and resolve ambivalence. Compared with non-directive counseling, it's more focused and goal-directed. The examination and resolution of ambivalence is a central purpose, and the counselor is intentionally directive in pursuing this goal. As a professional in the field, cultivating strong relationships is key to advancing your practice and creating a supportive network. This requires a blend of soft skills, strategic networking, and a genuine interest in the growth and development of both yourself and your colleagues.
