Following are the CRM Sync permissions that are required to perform specific tasks:
-
Read-Only Permissions
This level of admin permissions, along with user-authentication, enables almost all of the CRM Integration features (e.g., Activity Writeback) that are available after you have established the CRM Sync connection.
Here's a tip
Activity Writeback only requires user authentication and not admin-level authentication.
Retroactive writeback works on all Sales Navigator activities as far back as June 23rd, 2021. Any activity prior to this date isn't available for writeback.
-
Read and Write Permissions
The ability to update contact and lead records requires that a user has read and write permissions for the specific record that they are trying to update.
-
No Access (Sync not Enabled)
This level of permissions would mean the admin has not provided enough CRM access permission to enable any CRM Sync functionality.
The following table describes the objects for each CRM that require access:
CRM | Objects Requiring Access |
Microsoft Dynamics 365 | Account, Activity, Contact, Lead, Opportunity, System User, Position |
Salesforce | Account, Contact, Lead, Opportunity, Opportunity Role, Task, User, User Role |
HubSpot | Company, Contact, Deals, User, Opportunity Contact Role (OCR) |

Here's a tip
We use the permissions assigned to the integration user that connects CRM Sync within Sales Navigator Admin Settings. We'll require that the profile has read access to fields, as listed in the table above. You can also view a full list of fields here.
Lead/Contact Creation and Updating: When enabled for your contract, Lead/Contact Creation and Updating uses user-level authentication (authenticated the first time a user uses the feature) to write contact records to your CRM. This ensures the user is governed by all permissions (read, create, etc.) you have set for their CRM user account.
Data Validation (Only on Salesforce and Microsoft Dynamics 365): When enabled for your contract and coupled with the required CRM app, the app will be responsible for requesting a Not at Company Flag directly from Sales Navigator. All flags will be written into your CRM by the app itself, so write-level API permission isn't required.
Next Generation Data Validation: With the introduction of the Next Generation CRM Data Validation, you can see badges within Sales Navigator and it is displayed when contacts are out of date. This badge is displayed wherever Sales Navigator leads are shown. Also, Sales Navigator now validates more than just the account on the contact record; flagging when job title, account details and account location are out of date or missing is also available. Sellers can take action from within Sales Navigator to update a contact record in CRM with the correct information with just a few clicks.
