Community Day Schools
-
Our eight (8) Community Day Schools (CDS) serve and support high-risk youths, including those referred by expulsion, probation, a School Attendance Review Board or other district level referral process. They provide challenging academic curriculum and develop pro-social skills and resiliency.
-
What makes a Community Day School unique?
Required Minutes
Students are required to attend school 360 minutes daily.
Teacher-Student Ratio
A low student-teacher ratio provides personalized support.
Curriculum & Instruction
Students receive standards-based curriculum through a combination of direct instruction and online courses. Academic programs provide challenging learning experiences and individual attention to student learning modalities and abilities.
Support Plans
Upon enrollment, Individualized Learning Plans are developed to address academic and social-emotional strength/needs, goals and supports.
Social Emotional &
Academic Support
All schools provide guidance, tutoring, school counselors and psychologists, and student discipline personnel.
-
Who is eligible for a Community Day School (CDS)?
- Students kindergarten through 12th grade as an educational placement option for expelled and other highly at-risk students.
- Students with an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) with behavioral problems as an alternative placement to non-public school.
- Students who have been identified as habitually truant.
- Students who need intensive academic intervention and/or social-emotional adjustment (CDS placement is not appropriate for students whose primary need is credit recovery.)
-
How do you enroll in a Community Day School (CDS)?
- Students are typically involuntarily transferred to a CDS due to expulsion, a probation referral, referral by a school attendance review board (SARB), or as an opportunity transfer for behavior intervention.
- A parent may request a voluntary transfer to a CDS for intensive academic intervention and/or social emotional adjustment. Parents should contact their child’s current administrator to request a voluntary transfer and coordinate an intake conference with the CDS of choice.
