Gov. Gavin Newsom is awarding $131 million in grants to cities and counties that are seriously addressing homeless encampments. These grants come with stricter accountability measures than ever before. 

California lawmakers on both sides want to ban homelessness

Describing California's homelessness crisis as "inhumane" and "unhealthy," Senate GOP leader Brian Jones of San Diego and Democratic Sen. Catherine Blakespear of Encinitas announced a bipartisan bill last week to ban homeless encampments near "sensitive community areas" statewide. 

Modesto clears out caves used by homeless people as shelter

City leaders in Modesto are now taking steps to clear out the caves that have become homeless encampments.They say dozens of unhoused people have lived in caves along a river bank for years, possibly even decades.
