After years of being single, spending weekends away, and hosting countless guests, I’ve turned the guest room setup into a bit of an art form. Creating a space where your guests feel genuinely comfortable goes beyond tossing in extra towels—it’s about thoughtful details that whisper, “Welcome, I’m so glad you’re here.”

So how do you make your guest room feel inviting, warm, and luxurious? The secret is to think like a guest. What little touches would make you feel pampered and at ease? I even went as far as sleeping in my guest room, using the closet, nightstand, and bathroom to see what was missing. Whether it’s the perfect pillows, a cozy throw, or letting your guests control the room’s temperature, it’s the details that make all the difference.

Here’s how to create that irresistible “stay-a-little-longer” vibe in your guest room. Please note that some of the products linked to in this article are just suggestions. I will underline the items I personally own.

1. Start with the Bed: Comfort Is King

Your guests deserve more than lumpy old pillows and worn-out, frayed linens. Invest in quality bedding—crisp sheets, fluffy pillows, and a few extra layers like a duvet, a light blanket, and a cozy throw. A plush mattress topper can make the bed feel cloud-like.

2. Temperature Control: Options, Options, Options

No one should be sweating or shivering in silence. Leave a small fan, an extra blanket, or even a mini heater, so guests can set their comfort zone. A little note letting them know it’s okay to adjust the thermostat can be a game-changer.

3. The Mirror Rule: It’s Non-Negotiable

Your guests will want to check their reflection without making a bathroom dash. Whether it’s a fulllength mirror or a vanity one, it’s a must-have that shows you’ve thought of everything.

4. Personal Touches: The Little Things That Matter

Fresh flowers, a tray with bottled water, some midnight snacks (because who doesn’t get a late-night craving?), or even a handwritten note can instantly make your guests feel special. Thoughtful details say, “I see you, and I’ve made this space just for you.”

5. The Thoughtful Bathroom Setup: Spa Vibes, Anyone?

Turn your guest bathroom into a mini spa with fluffy towels, luxe toiletries, and maybe a candle or two. Include a basket of travel-sized essentials (toothpaste, mouthwash, medicine, razor, etc.) for those “oops, I forgot” moments. And don’t forget large towels (no one likes being short-changed on towel size), extra tissues and toilet paper under the sink, little cups for mouthwash, and of course, a trash bin in the bathroom.

6. Space to Unpack: Because Nobody Likes Living Out of a Suitcase

Offer your guests a place to unpack—a few hangers, a small empty dresser, or even a luggage rack (trust me, this is a game-changer). A clutter-free space with somewhere for their suitcase ensures they can settle in comfortably without feeling like they’re constantly stepping over their stuff.

7. Light Reading and Wi-Fi Details

A couple of magazines or a good book are always nice, but the real MVP is an easily accessible Wi-Fi password. No one wants to feel weird asking for it. Pro tip: leave extra phone chargers (an iPhone and a Samsung one) in the drawer—it’s a tiny touch, but it’s always appreciated.

8. Pampering Touches: Little Luxuries That Go a Long Way

Think about adding a cozy robe, slippers, or even a small box of chocolates. These small indulgences can take your guest room from “nice” to “I’m never leaving.”

9. Lighting That’s Cozy, Not Clinical

Harsh overhead lights? Hard pass. Opt for soft lamps, dimmable bulbs (like Shabbos bulbs), and layered lighting to create that warm, welcoming ambiance. And if you’ve got two nightstands, consider placing a clock on both sides. No one should have to reach across the bed to check the time.

10. Those Last Few Things…

Items like a wig head, Shabbos lamp, hat holder, nightstand mini fridge, and blackout shades are touches that your guests might not expect but are always appreciated.

Remember, if you’d be excited to stay in your guest room, you’ve nailed it. The best way to make your guests feel at home is by thinking like one.
