It was during San Diego Comic-Con in 2019 that Marvel announced two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali would play the superhero Blade in a new Marvel film set to arrive in theaters potentially as soon as late 2021 or early 2022.

Now five years later, Ali’s stab at Blade remains unmade. On Tuesday, Disney quietly announced that it had pulled the Marvel film from its scheduled release date of November 7, 2025. No new date has been publicly announced.

Progress on “Blade” has been slow and unsteady. Since the announcement in 2019, the project has cycled through two directors – Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange – and several writers. Ali was originally supposed to star alongside Aaron Pierre and Delroy Lindo in the film but both actors have since departed the project. Mia Goth was still attached, however, when she was doing press for “Maxxxine” this past summer.

We finally saw Blade appear in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film — it just wasn’t the Blade played by Mahershala Ali. The first appearance of Blade in the MCU came in “Deadpool & Wolverine” with Wesley Snipes reprising his iconic role.

And now Ali’s “Blade” has been delayed yet again, pulled from Disney’s 2025 release slate entirely. What a disaster.

Marvel chief Kevin Feige first announced a “Blade” reboot back in 2019 with Ali attached to star, and the character was even teased in the post-credits of 2021’s “Eternals,” a would-be franchise that now seems forgotten.

“Blade” has been through many starts and stops, with several writers and directors filtering through and with delays because of the writers strike and more. Through it all, the franchise’s original stars Wesley Snipes and Stephen Dorff haven’t refrained from talking about it.

“It’s not the actor’s fault,” Snipes said of Ali.

Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps are all heading our way next year and, up until today, so was Blade. 

It's been pretty obvious for a while that it wouldn't arrive in theaters on November 7, 2025, especially as there was no mention of it at events like San Diego Comic-Con and D23 earlier this summer. Now, Disney has confirmed that by removing the Daywalker's solo outing from its release schedule. 

As a result, the Blade reboot is undated and delayed indefinitely. 

On the plus side, Dan Trachtenberg's Predator: Badlands has taken Blade's place next November. Disney has also dated three untitled Marvel Studios movies for February 18, 2028, May 5, 2028, and November 10, 2028.

Her latest film, “Maria,” which was directed by Pablo Larraín and in which she plays famed opera singer Maria Callas, will be released in select theaters on Nov. 27 before streaming on Netflix on Dec. 11.

The Maltin Modern Master Award is named after film critic Leonard Maltin, who has been a moderator at the Santa Barbara film festival for many years, and it recognizes an “individual who has enriched our culture through accomplishments in the motion picture industry,” according to the festival. “Angelina Jolie makes bold choices, both as an actress and as a director,” Maltin said via statement. “She sets the bar high in both disciplines and always comes through.”

Marvel Studios has been leading the box office charts for a long time. But now, it appears that the studio may be expanding its storytelling from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) into the gaming industry.

According to a new report, Marvel Studios is reportedly developing its first video game that will take place directly within the MCU. While Marvel-based video games have been popular for years, this new project would mark the first time a game is officially tied to the MCU. But let’s hope in advance that it doesn’t turn out like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

The MCU Could Make a Grand Entry Into Gaming

The MCU has become a cultural phenomenon with its interconnected films and Disney+ series. But Marvel Studios has largely avoided blending its cinematic universe with the gaming side of things.

DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn has once again shared some big Dcu updates, and while he didn't exactly confirm we're getting a Superman trailer before the end of the year, the filmmaker certainly didn't deny it!

There have been rumblings for a while that the Dcu might be showcased at Ccxp in Brazil this December and it would be smart to end the year by showcasing the new Man of Tomorrow.

For now, though, we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

A few months ago, there were rumours that Eternals star Kumail Nanjiani might be the Dcu's Booster Gold. We've heard nothing more since and the trades haven't shared any updates on the planned TV series.

After posting a fan-made image with Nanjiani pictured alongside Booster, Gunn was quick to point out that his sharing it wasn't meant to confirm any casting reports.

MCU has managed to somewhat recover following the release of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ in terms of interest and box office. The fact however still remains that we have too many heroes whose storylines have not been touched for years now and too many elements in the MCU that have been ignored.

While his live-action adaptations to date may not done justice to him (with the titular film from 1998 and Deadpool & Wolverine being exceptions), Mahershala Ali is widely expected to deliver him as per fans’ expectations.

Comic book films, especially those that came out of Marvel, owe a lot to Blade. Blade, the first proper success that Marvel had at the box office, was set to be much bigger than what audiences ended up getting.

Marvel Studios and Disney Plus have been going hand-in-hand with each other since 2021. The Hollywood juggernaut turned its attention to the small screen after the conclusion of its Infinity Saga, determined to build out the world even further through the use of streaming television. It accomplished that with the launch of WandaVision, which has led to the arrival of ten more Disney Plus shows set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (including that original show's spinoff Agatha All Along).

There is no doubt about it, the MCU is a much bigger, more expansive place with the original series adding to the lore. Not all have achieved the same levels of success, but they have all reached different corners of the TV fandom that maybe wouldn't have jumped on-board the MCU ship otherwise. From WandaVision's sitcom episodes to the comedy of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, there has been something there for everyone.
