SITUATIONAL ASSESSMENT

Short-term work evaluation with up to three job options to explore skill sets based on client’s interests.
Length of assessment: between 2-8 hours over the course of 1-2 days.
Billable Activity:

  • Flat rate includes time spent setting up and conducting assessment and report writing.

Trial Work

Helps to determine the client's capacity to benefit from VR services.
Length of assessment: Can be several work shift over 2-3 weeks.
Billable Activity: 

  • Establishing sites: 2 hours per site
  • Trial work report: 2 hours
  • Follow-up meeting: 1 hour per experience
  • Time spent conducting assessment

This training involves a personal coach to help the individual learn the tasks of the job. Job coaching is often one-on-one training.

Student Work Experience

Short-term work experience for high school students to help build essential, entry level work skills.
Length: Typically between 6-8 weeks.
Billable Activity:

  • Job search with youth present billed at an hourly rate
  • Job coaching up to 5 hours per week at an hourly rate *

*Additional hours for job coaching may be approved on a case-by-case basis.

Adult Work Experience

Short-term work experience used as an opportunity to acquire additional work skills and behaviors needed to prepare for employment. 
Length: Typically between 8-12 weeks. Job coaching is expected to fade over the course of the experience.
Billable Activity:

  • Total hours authorized as determined by VR
  • Hours are billed at an hourly rate

Job Development/Placement and On-the-Job Supports

Job coaching is provided for 3-4 months. Services are expected to fade over time with no ongoing supports once the client learns the job and is stable in performing the work duties and tasks.

Billable Activity:

  • Total hours authorized as determined by VR
  • Hours are billed at an hourly rate

Supported Employment

Job coaches start with as much support as needed and gradually reduce time spend with the client as they learn job duties and tasks. Long term usually between 6-24 months. Supports will continue to be provided through alternative sources once the VR case is closed.

Billable Activity:

  • Services that are billed at an hourly rate
    • Intake meeting, job search, and  job coaching
  • Services that are billed at a flat rate
    • Placement fee after 30 days successfully employed
  • Final outcome and premium payments at successful closure

Customized Employment

Negotiated job duties that matches the clients strengths and the needs of the business. For those who would like to enter the workforce but may not have skills necessary to perform all essential duties (job carving). Job coaching and follow-up are provided.

Billable Activity:

  • Services that are billed at an hourly rate
    • Intake meeting, job development, job search, and job coaching
  • Services that are billed at a flat rate
    • Discovery activities, placement fee after 30 days successfully employed
  • Final outcome and premium payments at successful closure

The VR counselor will identify if the individual qualifies for premium payments.
 
Successful Premium Payments (maximum of five) will be approved for the following six categories:
1. Criminal background (felony and misdemeanors if relevant to employment and based on counselor judgement)
2. Any client who desires to obtain or maintain employment in the community where they live, excluding the eight regional cities, Valley City or Wahpeton
3. Professional placement (any client with an Associate Degree or higher and being placed in position requiring this level of education)
4. Brain injury
5. Substance use disorder
6. Autism and intellectual disability

Example: A client wanting to work in their own community of Killdeer (premium), who has a felony that affects employment (premium) and was determined eligible for services due to having a brain injury (premium), substance use (premium), and has an intellectual disability (premium) would receive the outcome and maximum of five premium payments.
