Public Health Data Explorer

Healthy Vermonters 2020 captures priority health outcomes and indicators for the decade. The Quick Reference (Lamoille) (Caledonia) or (Orleans) gives a look at the indicators and progress toward our goals.

Health Data Across All Ages

The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey (BRFSS) and Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS) look at health indicators across the age spectrum. Vermont tracks adult health-related risk behaviors, chronic health conditions, and use of preventive services using the BRFSS. YRBS monitors health risk behaviors that contribute to the leading causes of death, disease, injury and social problems among youth.

Emergency Preparedness

The Morrisville Local Health Office works with local partners to prepare, respond and recover from public health emergencies. Staff in the Morrisville Office are trained and ready to respond to public health emergencies so that people in our community can stay healthy and safe. We work with local, state and federal partners to make sure we are prepared to distribute medicine, supplies and information to residents of Lamoille Valley in a health emergency.

Tobacco Prevention

The Morrisville Local Health Office connects tobacco prevention and quit partners with schools and community organizations throughout the area. We are your local connection to the statewide 802Quits program and resources. If you have questions about smoke-free housing, tobacco-related town zoning and policies, or how to make your business or medical campus smoke-free, contact us and we can help you reach your goals.

Smoking rates in Vermont are declining, but they remain higher in some groups. Learn more about how we provide services and supports to those with the highest rates of smoking and tobacco use.

Local Highlights

Healthy Lamoille Valley is an organization of community members whose mission is to change community norms working with diverse community partners to reduce tobacco use and exposure, prevent youth substance abuse, to reduce substance abuse overall and to support healthy personal choices.

Lamoille County Mental Health Services (LCMHS) is a tobacco-free champion in our area. In 2015 LCMHS implemented their smoke-free campus policy. Vermont Department of Health’s 802Quits was instrumental in assisting all employees and consumers in meeting this policy.

CounterBalance is a campaign directed towards the tobacco industry’s influence on youth and the damaging impact tobacco use has on community health.

The Regional Substance Abuse Prevention Consultant works with community groups, schools, human service agencies, hospitals, law enforcement, parents and youth. The purpose of this work is to educate communities about the risks of alcohol and other drug use and to reduce misuse among youth, young adults and adults through:

How We Learn About Infectious Disease

We investigate reports of infectious disease in Lamoille Valley we partner with Copley Hospital and local providers. If you are diagnosed with a reportable disease , one of our staff may contact you to discuss your illness, ask you about how you got sick and help prevent your friends and family from also getting sick. Tickborne Diseases

There are more reports of tickborne disease in Vermont in the past ten years. Lyme disease is the most commonly reported tickborne disease. Learn more about tickborne disease in our area, and how you can prevent tick bites with these Be Tick Smart tips.

Prevent HIV, STDs and Viral Hepatitis

We provide free condoms to help reduce the risks of HIV, STDs and viral hepatitis. Stop by our office to choose your supplies. HIV, STDs and viral hepatitis can be treated and prevented. There are resources available to help. Many are free or covered by insurance and offered across Vermont.

We work to promote the health of all Vermonters, and that includes individuals in our LGBTQ community. We welcome your concerns or questions you may have about infectious disease control or prevention. Learn More:

Healthcare-Associated Infections

We work with community partners, sharing information on how to prevent healthcare-associated infections. Our partners include infection prevention specialists from hospitals and long-term care facilities in our area. Child care centers, long-term care facilities and town health officers are some of the groups the Health Department has worked with. Immunizations

Our Immunization Public Health Nurses work closely with local families and medical practices to increase immunization rates in Lamoille, Caledonia, Orleans and Washington Counties for infants, children, adolescents and adults. We offer immunization at no charge for people who are under 65 years old and uninsured or a patient of a medical practice that cannot receive vaccine from the Vermont Vaccines for Children & Adults program. We are here to answer your questions.

The Morrisville Local Health Office offers monthly immunization clinics at no charge for people who are under 65 years old and uninsured, experiencing significant barriers to access, or a patient of a medical practice that cannot receive vaccine from the Vermont Vaccines for Children & Adults program.

We are available to help employers plan and start worksite wellness programs. Whether you’re thinking about starting a program or wish to strengthen your current program, we can help. Our staff will support your wellness team to assess your worksite, identify employee interests and barriers to wellness and move toward creating a wellness plan. We can help you begin with a narrow focus and broaden that focus as enthusiasm builds. We can also connect worksites with resources and partners.

In this toolkit you will find steps to design and sustain a wellness program that fits the size and culture of your organization. Our focus for wellness programs is on promoting physical and emotional health, reducing the major risk factors that lead to chronic disease—physical inactivity, poor nutrition, and tobacco use—and supporting preventative care and breastfeeding.
