In Inside Cyber: How AI, 5G, and Quantum Computing Will Transform Privacy and Our Security, Brooks covers the rise of generative AI in enabling sophisticated social engineering attacks.

"Hackers now use generative AI to mimic voices and videos, creating deepfakes that can convincingly impersonate anyone," he said. "The bad guys exploit our nature, and they will continue to do that."

Brooks also warns of the impending "Q Day," when encryption systems may be rendered obsolete by quantum computers. "Quantum breakthroughs are accelerating. Within the decade, adversarial nations or actors could decrypt stolen data, putting critical systems and sensitive information at risk," said Brooks, stressing the need for security teams to move to quantum-resistant cryptography.

In this video interview with Information Security Media Group, Brooks also discussed:

  • AI's dual role as a tool for defense and sophisticated attacks;
  • Risks posed by quantum computing to modern encryption;
  • Ethical and privacy challenges arising from AI integration.

Brooks, president of Brooks Consulting International, is a renowned cybersecurity leader recently named a Top Cybersecurity Leader for 2024 and Cybersecurity Person of the Year by Cyber Express. Recognized as one of LinkedIn's "Top 5 Tech Persons to Follow," he has over 120,000 followers and a newsletter, "Security and Tech Insights," with more than 59,000 subscribers. He is a contributor to publications including Forbes, The Washington Post, and Dark Reading, and has briefed the G20 on energy cybersecurity, the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See on global cybersecurity cooperation, and advisory groups for the National Academy of Sciences. Brooks, a former Senior Executive Service appointee under two U.S. presidents and Georgetown University adjunct professor, has authored over 350 articles and keynoted global conferences, solidifying his influence in cybersecurity and emerging technologies.
