Lowri Jones Member
Originally from the Rhymney Valley in Caerphilly, Lowri was educated at Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni before graduating from Aberystwyth University with a BA and from Cardiff University with an MA.
For the past 22 years, Lowri has worked as the Chief Officer for Menter Iaith Sir Caerffili. She has led the development of Menter Caerffili and its services which now employs over 70 members of staff and provides a large range of opportunities to use the Welsh language across communities. Between 2018-2021, Lowri was Chair of Mentrau Iaith Cymru, the network of Mentrau Iaith across Wales, supporting the development of national, regional and local projects which increase the opportunities to use the Welsh language on a community level.
Lowri has recently become a member of the Third Sector Partnership Council, representing the network of organisations across Wales who support the use of the Welsh language. She is passionate about supporting communities to develop new and innovative opportunities to use the Welsh language in the area where she grew up, particularly for children and young people.
Lowri is a strong advocate for the voluntary sector and the key role it has to play in the development of our communities. She has extensive experience of working with the voluntary and public sectors in Caerphilly County to develop support and opportunities for young people and feel strongly that working collaboratively, across sectors, offers the best opportunity to continue to develop youth work services in Wales. As a mother of four boys, she is involved in many local sporting groups and other voluntary organisations.
