This guidance is relevant to cases of employment which began on or after 29 February 2008 where a breach of the illegal working requirements took place before 16 May 2014. Use this guide to find out:

  • the law on illegal working
  • your role and duty as an employer
  • the document checks you should carry out
  • images of the various documents you could be given
  • the various types of immigration statuses held by people
  • the consequences if you do not carry out document checks and you are found employing an illegal worker
