Chris Prevett
Biography
Chris Prevett was appointed as Interim General Counsel at the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) on 26 July 2022. As a member of the senior executive team and an important adviser to the board, Chris leads in the provision of legal advice across the CMA’s functions.
Previous career highlights include:
- Senior Legal Director of Mergers, Markets and Sector Regulation at the CMA, responsible for overseeing legal advice across the portfolio
- Legal Director and Project Director at the CMA
- Senior lawyer in private practice with Travers Smith LLP and Slaughter and May, where he advised across a wide range of EU and UK merger and antitrust issues
- Working on secondment at the Office of Fair Trading
General Counsel
The General Counsel at the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is responsible for:
- providing strong, visible leadership across the organisation
- ensuring that the CMA’s legal work is of high quality consistently
- providing guidance on the most important cases and acting as a strong advocate for competition, building relationships across the legal sector in the UK and internationally
