The British High Commission in Malaysia maintains and develops relations between the UK and Malaysia.

We represent the British government in its relations with the Malaysian government and present British policies to the Malaysian government and to Malaysians. We report and explain Malaysian policies to the British government and support British interests as well as coordinating the political, economic, environmental and commercial activities of the British government.

With nearly 16,000 Britons living in Malaysia and over 401,000 visiting every year, the High Commission supports British nationals if they need assistance.

Getting help

If you cannot get the support you need from local services, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) can help British people abroad.

We prioritise emergencies and people who are vulnerable, for example, if someone’s:

ill, injured, or involved in a crime
with a British person who’s died

Get an emergency travel document

You can apply for an emergency travel document if you’re abroad and your passport has been lost or stolen, damaged or expired, and you can’t get a new or replacement passport in time to travel.

If the person needing the emergency travel document is under 16, a parent or guardian should apply on their behalf.

If you are travelling in more than 3 weeks, check if you can get a new or replacement passport in time to travel.

Other consular services

Notarial and documentary services

The British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur cannot provide notarial services as British consular officers in Commonwealth countries have no legal powers under the Commissioners for Oaths Act 1889 to undertake notarial acts, administer oaths or take affidavits which will be effectual in the United Kingdom.

This includes certifying documents as true copies of originals. For these or other notarial acts, you should contact a local notary.

Although we have formally notified the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that we do not provide these services, some government departments or local authority offices often insist on a letter from the High Commission before administering a service.
