The British Consulate General in Jerusalem represents the UK government in Jerusalem, West Bank and Gaza.

We work on political, commercial, security and economic interests between the UK and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.

The British Consulate General Jerusalem and our office in Gaza provide consular assistance to British nationals in Jerusalem, West Bank and Gaza.

We advise against all but essential travel to the Occupied Palestinian Territories, and against all travel to some locations there.

Getting help

If you cannot get the support you need from local services, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) can help British people abroad.

We prioritise emergencies and people who are vulnerable, for example, if someone’s:

ill, injured, or involved in a crime
with a British person who’s died

Get an emergency travel document

You can apply for an emergency travel document if you’re abroad and your passport has been lost or stolen, damaged or expired, and you can’t get a new or replacement passport in time to travel.

If the person needing the emergency travel document is under 16, a parent or guardian should apply on their behalf.

If you are travelling in more than 3 weeks, check if you can get a new or replacement passport in time to travel.

Development work with the Occupied Palestinian Territories

The UK’s policy goal is to preserve the viability of the two-state solution as the best way to bring stability to the region. The UK also works to mitigate the impact of the occupation on the lives of Palestinians. We are helping develop the institutions of a future Palestinian state to ensure it can effectively deliver services for Palestinian people and act as a partner for peace with Israel.

UK position on Jerusalem

The position of the UK government has remained constant since April 1950, when the UK extended de jure recognition to the State of Israel, but withheld recognition of sovereignty over Jerusalem pending a final determination of its status. We recognise Israel’s de facto authority over West Jerusalem. In line with Security Council Resolution 242 (1967) and subsequent Council resolutions, we regard East Jerusalem as under Israeli occupation.
