Mehdi Hussain
Biography
Mehdi was Deputy British High Commissioner in Tanzania in September 2023. Prior to this appointment, Mehdi was at the British Embassy Beijing, where he carried out several roles including Counsellor for Programming, Trade Counsellor and Counsellor for Climate & Environment.
Mehdi has worked for other departments across the UK Civil Service, including Department for International Development (now Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office), HM Revenue and Customs, Department for Work and Pensions, Department for Trade (now Department for Business and Trade), the Office for National Statistics, and the Competition and Markets Authority. Mehdi also worked on secondment from the UK government for the European Commission in Brussels.
Charge d'Affaires to Mauritania
The Charge represents His Majesty The King and the UK government in the country to which they are appointed. They are responsible for the direction and work of the Embassy and its Consulates, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
