Tiffany Kirlew

Biography

Tiffany Kirlew has been the British Deputy High Commissioner to Uganda since August 2024.

She joined the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in 2006. Most recently Tiffany served overseas at the British High Commission in Nairobi as Political Counsellor (2020-2024). Tiffany’s previous postings included being Private Secretary to the Ambassador at the British Embassy in Washington (2012-2016), First Secretary Political in the British Embassy in Moscow (2011) and the Provincial Reconstruction Team’s Liaison to Regional Command Southwest in Helmand Province, Afghanistan (2010-2011).  In London, Tiffany headed the Africa and Asia Teams in the Joint International Counter Terrorism Unit and has worked in the Security Policy and Europe Directorates of the Foreign Common and Development Office. She is a trained Rapid Deployment Team (RDT), Team Leader.

Prior to joining the FCDO she worked at the Ministry of Justice and the BBC. Tiffany has a Masters degree from the University of Nottingham.

British Deputy High Commissioner to Uganda

The Deputy High Commissioner is a senior diplomat and typically an important advisor to the Ambassador or High Commissioner. The Deputy is responsible for the daily management of an overseas Embassy or High Commission. They will represent the UK’s interests in the absence of the Ambassador as Chargé d’Affaires. A senior ranking Deputy may also take the title Minister. Smaller missions may not have a Deputy Head.
