David Wallace

Biography

David Wallace has been Acting High Commissioner (Chargé d’Affaires) at the British High Commission in Kuala Lumpur since August 2024.  Previously he was Deputy High Commissioner from July 2022. 

David has a diplomatic career spanning over twenty years during which he has covered a range of political, economic and security roles, focused in Europe and East Asia. From 2017 to 2022 he was Political Counsellor at the British Embassy in Berlin, where he built up co-operation with Germany on foreign, security and development issues.

Previously he has served as Political Counsellor in Warsaw, Head of Economic Section in Seoul and as a diplomatic adviser in Baghdad.  In the Foreign Office Head Office he has worked on sanctions, counter proliferation, Iraq and Afghanistan.

David has a BA (Hons) in Philosophy and an MA in International Economics.  He speaks English, German and Polish.

The Acting British High Commissioner represents His Majesty The King and the UK government in the country to which they are appointed. They are responsible for the direction and work of the High Commission and its Deputy High Commissions, including political work, trade and investment, press and cultural relations, and visa and consular services.
