David Lelliott OBE

Biography

David Lelliott was appointed Her Majesty´s Ambassador to the Republic of El Salvador in August 2019.

Prior to this, David was Deputy Head of Mission and Consul General at the British Embassy Khartoum.

David is a career diplomat with over twenty years of experience. He has previously worked in the Middle East, Latin America, Africa, India and Europe, as well as two spells in London.

He has handled a wide range of portfolios, notably on conflict prevention and resolution, having served in Liberia from 2003 to 2006, immediately after the civil war there, and in Southern Sudan from 2008 to 2009, with a spell in between as Conflict Prevention Team Leader at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London.

From 2013 to 2017 he was British Deputy High Commissioner Chandigarh (India). He has also worked on trade promotion (in Mexico from 2000 to 2003); other appointments (in Iraq, Qatar and Gibraltar) have focused on political, governance and media work.

In 2006, following his return from Liberia, he was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).
