Is there any chance to support Alone in the Dark music? #16
Comments
I don't have any experience with this format so can't help out there, but if you can find someone who knows the format that will be a start. If you can further convince them to write some code so that they are playable in AdPlug then I will be happy to merge the code into the project. You may find it is indeed the same issue as #6 - without knowing more about the file formats it's difficult to say for sure. |
May not actually be .adl. I noticed that there seems to be some prior work in the (abandoned?) Free In The Dark project that could be helpful, this for instance looks very promising: https://github.com/somaen/fitd-residualvm/blob/master/src/music.cpp I'm not holding my breath on finding anyone to look into it, though. |
@binarymaster Neither of us wrote that code originally. The original authors are listed in https://github.com/somaen/fitd-residualvm/blob/master/AUTHORS. Hopefully you can get a hold of them. |
Alright, I'll try to contact them. |
@binarymaster Any news in adding ADLM code to AdPlug? Authors didnt answered? |
I sent a mail to Vincent Hamm at Feb 28th, still no answer. |
Could you try to contact him on LinkedIn? |
Someone on the #scummvm irc channel promised to pass a word of this bug and the desire of his input to him a couple of months ago, but also cautioned that the likelihood that he reacts to it in any way is slim. Clearly he hasn't. |
The versions of Alone in the Dark being sold today have the original AdLib music of the floppy version changed to CD audio. Many feel this is inferior, so I was hoping to play the original score that I think may still be included in the file LISTMUS.PAK.
Quickbms/alonedark.bms gave me eight files with an .adl suffix, but sadly they don't play and most segfault. I'm not sure whether they are wrongly detected, broken, unsupported, or an example of issue #6. The files appear to start with the header "ADLM". Am I out of luck?
