►Miss FV Orientation is Nov. 9

The Orientation meeting about the upcoming Miss Fountain Valley and Miss Fountain Valley Teen Scholarship Competition will be held from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Nov. 9 at Coastal Community Fellowship, 10460 Slater Ave.

The competition is open to young ladies ages 14-27 who live, work or go to school in Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa or Westminster, or who attend UC Irvine, or Cal State Long Beach. Thousands of dollars in scholarships will be awarded with two titles at this year's Competition on Feb. 2, 2025. For more information: www.missfountainvalley. com

►Veterans Day ceremony is Nov. 11

The City of Fountain Valley and the West Orange County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post & Auxiliary 9557 will present the city’s annual Veterans Day Ceremony from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 11 at Veterans Park, 17635 Los Alamos St., next to the Fountain Valley Library.

►FV Woman’s Club Lunch is Nov. 12

The Fountain Valley Woman's Club will hold its next luncheon and meeting Tuesday Nov 12th at 11am at the Mile Square Golf Course Banquet Room. The club raises money for various causes.

►Operation Christmas Child

Since its 1993 inception, Operation Christmas Child, a project of the international relief organization, Samaritan's Purse, has collected and distributed gift-filled shoeboxes and a message of hope to more than 220 million children in over 170 countries and territories in partnership with local churches worldwide. For many of these children, this the first gift they have ever received.

The 2024 Operation Christmas Child National Collection Week is November 18- 25. During this week, residents are invited to fill an empty shoebox with school supplies, personal care items, and fun toys for a boy or girl and deliver it to Shoreline Baptist Church at 10350 Ellis Ave., Fountain Valley, CA 92708.

The Center at Founders Village will host the annual seniors Thanksgiving Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19.

The event is sponsored by MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center and will include lunch, entertainment and dessert.

►Women’s cancer support group meetings planned

Orange Coast Medical Center offers a support group for women at any stage of the cancer experience via Zoom on the second Thursday of the month. Sessions are planned for 2:303:30 p.m. Nov. 14 and Dec. 12.

This group provides educational information, supportive discussion, and addresses vital cancer issues and concerns. For additional information and to register for a Zoom session, call (714) 378-7146. A Zoom link will be emailed to registered guests at least a couple hours before the Zoom session.

►Medical center offers Parkinson’s support groups

Orange Coast Medical Center in Fountain Valley offers a variety of ongoing Parkinson’s disease support groups.

Parkinson’s disease is a chronic neurologic condition that affects many areas of one’s life. The medical center offers patient and care partner support groups, exercises classes, physical therapy, speech therapy, and leading minimally invasive and surgical treatment options.

►Men’s cancer support groups offered

Orange Coast Medical Center will offer virtual men’s cancer support group meetings from 2:30-3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21 and again on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024.

The group is for men at any stage of the cancer experience, and provides educational information, supportive discussion, and addresses vital cancer issues and concerns.
