Here’s an updated version of your contest description with the pool placement and view considerations:
Contest Description:
We are seeking creative and cost-effective remodel design proposals for a house we are purchasing in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. The property, known as Colibri House, was built in the 1970s, and our goal is to maximize the number of bedrooms within the current structure while minimizing the need for expansions beyond the existing footprint. Additionally, we are interested in the strategic placement of a pool to complement the property’s layout and maximize the beautiful island views.
Key Project Goals:
Maximize Bedrooms:
We are looking to add as many bedrooms as possible without compromising the existing structural integrity and functionality of the home.
It has been determined that the current master bedroom cannot be divided into two separate rooms.
Stay Within or Near the Current Footprint:
The design should minimize expansion beyond the current foundation, focusing on making the best use of the available interior space.
Economic Construction Approach:
We aim to keep the construction process as budget-friendly as possible, while still enhancing the overall value of the property. Consider cost-effective materials and building techniques.
Value Addition:
Any additions made to the property should increase the long-term value of the home. We are especially interested in designs that add practicality, modern aesthetics, and appeal to potential future buyers or renters.
Pool Placement:
We are open to incorporating a pool into the design, and we would like proposals that suggest the optimal placement. The pool should enhance the property's livability and appeal without requiring extensive expansion.
Maximize the Views:
The house offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, and we want to ensure that any redesign or addition maximizes these views. Thoughtful window placement, outdoor living spaces, and open layouts that connect the indoors with the outdoors will be highly appreciated.
Important Details:
The house is located in the tropical paradise of Tortola, BVI, so designs should incorporate elements that complement the island's environment and lifestyle.
You can view the details and layout of the house here: Colibri House Property Listing
Submission Requirements:
Detailed floor plans and design renderings showcasing your vision for maximizing the bedroom count and optimizing the placement of a pool.
A brief explanation of your design choices, including how the proposal enhances the house’s value, maximizes the views, and keeps construction costs economical.
We are excited to see your creative ideas for transforming this classic Tortola property into a more functional, beautiful, and valuable space!
