Contest Brief

I need a Windows-compatible program or document that can merge two consistently formatted PDF documents into one. The combined document should include products and their respective quantities merged into one line.

Key Requirements:
- Merge 2 or 3 PDF documents into 1 PDF document or an excel file, while combing each line item quantity.

The original PDF documents are exported from our shipping software, ShipStation. If an app/program isn't the best way to handle this request, we'd also accept a very detailed set of instructions on how to accomplish this task, as we will need to be able to perform it independently, daily.

If it's easiest, I can provide raw line item data for you to convert into a graphical PDF document, similar to attached.

Ideal Skills:
- Expertise in Windows application development.
- Prior experience with PDF manipulation tools and libraries.
- Ability to create user-friendly interfaces.

*Attached is an example of two PDF documents that we'd like to be able to independently combine into 1.

Yes, the script can be made easy to run, especially if converted into an executable file. Here’s a streamlined process with three main steps to make it user-friendly:

Convert the Script to an Executable: Use PyInstaller to convert the Python script into a .exe file, which can be run on Windows without Python installation.

    Command:
    bash
    कोड कॉपी करें
    pyinstaller --onefile script.py
Provide the Executable to the Client: Once the .exe file is created, you can provide it to your client. They can place it in a folder where they want to run it.

One-Click Run: The client simply double-clicks the .exe file to run the script. No installations or programming knowledge are needed.

With this setup, the client only has to complete one step to execute the script once it’s converted, making it a straightforward, user-friendly solution.

Yes, it’s possible to make a program that works with one click, without any pre-installations or previous programming experience. This would require:

    1. Creating an Executable File: Converting the script into an executable (.exe) file so it runs directly on Windows without needing Python. You can do this using a tool like PyInstaller.

    Example command:

    pyinstaller --onefile script.py

    2. Including All Dependencies: Ensure all necessary libraries are bundled within the executable, so the user doesn’t need to install anything separately.

    3. User-Friendly Interface: Developing a simple interface (like a button) using a library like Tkinter in Python. This would make it easy to use with a single click.

Once converted to an executable with a user-friendly GUI, you can run it with one click, without any need for prior programming knowledge or installations.

Yes, if you already have Python and the necessary libraries installed, this task can be completed in 30 minutes. Here’s an estimated timeline:

    1. Installing Libraries (if not already installed):

Installing libraries like FPDF, reportlab, pdfkit, or Pillow should take about 5 minutes.

pip install fpdf reportlab pdfkit pillow img2pdf

    2. Setting Up the PDF Script:

Setting up any of the three methods mentioned (using FPDF, pdfkit, or image-to-PDF conversion) in the code and executing it should take around 10-15 minutes.

    3. Testing and Reviewing PDF Output:

Running the code and reviewing the output PDF should take another 5-10 minutes.

So, by following these guidelines carefully, the entire process can be completed within 30 minutes. If you need help at any step, I’m here to assist you.

Yes, you can explain this process to your client so they have a clear understanding of how it will work for them. Here’s how you can communicate it:

Python Installation: Inform them about installing Python and the required libraries (PyPDF2, pandas, openpyxl) and guide them through the installation steps if needed.

Daily Use: Explain that they need to place the PDF files in the same folder as the script and run it by following the steps provided. Each day, they’ll need to run the script to generate an updated Excel output.

Automated Output: Let them know the script automatically merges products and quantities into a single Excel file without any additional manual steps.

You can also mention that if they need further customization in the future, they can reach out. This way, they’ll feel confident using the script daily.
