I have posted this project earlier. Someone started it but did not finish it. That's why I post it again.
I'm looking for a skilled developer to build a new Shopify webshop that mirrors the functionalities of my current Magento webshop (10 years old but recent version: 2.4.6-p2).
Your task
- Your task is to do the complete set-up of a Shopify store including the migration from Magento. For migrating data I can buy the Matrixify for one month if you need it. You will get access to the Magento backend.
- In principle, I only want you to set-up the store using a free theme and free plugins. When existing functionality is only possible with paid apps, you report to me and I make a decision whether I want to pay for it, or leave out this functionality. Customizations should be done using configuration options and only by exception by developing own plugins, coding etc.
- You will test your work, compare it with the current Magento site.
- You assist me in a good working business email. I have to be able to receive and reply to emails from the business account via an email client like Thunderbird on my local computer, but also through the gmail app on my telephone/tablet when travelling.
- The end-result is a website that is fast, stable and secure and passes tests like Google Pagespeed Insights (green status for desktop and mobile). It is ready to sell without any limits.
- Note that I have some SQL queries to report to me about products and sales. The reports should be available on the new site too (in Shopify dashboard, or external tool making connection to the database).
What I expect from you:
- You treat data as confidential and customer and sales data is not transferred to your local or an other external environment.
- Good knowledge of Magento and Shopify.
- You have proper English language and respond to my questions / requests quickly on Freelancer chat.
- I appreciate it when you inform me at the end of each day what has been done that day; not a long story but a small text of 100 words would do. It gives me confidence that the project has your attention.
- After the project, you give me three months of service period. You fix any issues found in these three months without additional costs. Priority issues affecting customers or store owner preventing doing essential business activities have to be solved within 24 hours after being reported.
- Don't ask to release money if milestones are not yet completed.
- Open-minded: if you have good reason why it is not a good idea to migrate some functionality, you inform me about that.
- I know freelancers are taking on projects simultaneously, but this project should be your number 1 project with main focus.
- We use gitlab for issues. Update the issue board when you have solved issues.
What you can expect from me:
- I will respond as quickly as possible to all your questions / request.
- I will try to test as soon as possible after you ask me to do or review changes.
Milestones:
1. Creating the shopify website. At the end of this milestone I should be able to manage my shop (place and process orders, inventory etc) just like on my Magento site.
2. Migration of Magento data, going live and bug-fixing when needed.
Milestone 1 is 25% of the budget; Milestone 2 is 75% of the budget.
The project may be cancelled and reposted if the deadlines are not met.
Specifications/requirements Milestone 1, Deadline Aug 22nd 2024:

- Create two store views: English & Dutch. This has already been done. But translations are still to do.
- Configure these already installed apps:
- Loyalty system for earning and spending points for orders
- Enable pre-orders with a maximum stock quantity
- Multisafepay as a payment provider
- Sendcloud and GLS as the shipping partners next to default Shopify shipping.
- Checkout:
- Implement fees for payment methods and shipping insurance
- Set up payment restriction for specific shipping methods
- Calculate shipping rates based on destination, weight, and shipping carrier/method. Export rates from Magento and import in Shopify
- Offer shipping methods including in-store pick-up and service points
- Display order overview on screen after checkout
- Include price, tax, quantity, fees, and shipping in the order overview
- Include some product variables in the order overview
- Inventory:
- Manage simple products and configurable products
- Provide filter options for "in stock non-pre-order", "pre-order", and "out of stock"
- Product variables according to my Magento site. It is up to you if you fancy defining all product variables as metafields first and then do a test import (e.g. 50 products), or you let define Matrixify define the metafields at import.
- General:
- Include maintenance mode and a visible information bar
- Ensure the webshop is SEO-optimized
- Implement a cookie notice
- Optimize (product)images for performance-friendly formats like webp.
- Integrate Google Analytics
- Create a menu for products: "pre-order", "Spotlight/Featured", "Sale", "Latest"
- Emails:
- Include a shipping tracking link in shipping emails
- Configure sales emails for a nice layout and content
- Display order overview in sales emails, and as a PDF attachment in email
- Include price, tax, quantity, fees, and shipping in the order overview
- Include some product variables in the order overview
- Admin:
- Allow admin to delete orders from the backend
- Enable admin to edit products in a grid in the backend
- Link orders placed as guests to customer accounts
- Allow for the change of email address of customer in an order
- Set up sales and inventory reports
- Implement tax (VAT) based on product and customer location
Above are mentioned the key specifications/requirements. Easy things like duplicating the favicon are not mentioned here, to make this list compact but belong to this project.
Specifications/requirements Milestone 2, Deadline Oct 6th 2024:
- Migrate all data from my Magento webshop to the new Shopify webshop:
- products/stock
- customers
- newsletter subscribers
- sales data (orders, invoices, shippings, credit memos)
- loyalty points (customer x order)
- blog items
- anything else which can be considered as crucial when disconnecting my Magento site.
- Do a test import first. If the result is OK, display a maintenance message, do the complete import.
- Link the new Shopify website to [login to view URL] and test if everything works ok.
- Remove the maintenance message.
