I am a biology professor at UC San Diego, and my research lab wants to develop a video game for fish. In our experiments, a fish is held in place in front of a video projection dome where they observe a visual scene. Their tail is free to move, and we record their tail movements in real time to update their visual scene (so they can "swim" around their environment). I want to implement a Unity game where this environment is populated by other fish (semi-realistic body models), so the fish in front of the screen can navigate this animated environment. Our goal is to use this game to study the visual cues that prompt fish to swim together as a school.
In the best-case scenario, I want this to be a multi-player video game. As in, multiple fish would be able to navigate the same environment, with their movements updating the animated movements in the scene (ie: if fish 1 turns left, fish 2 observed fish 1's body posture and position change in real time)
Critically, we need this game to be easy to manipulate so that students can use it and manipulate features without the need for Unity expertise.
