Heineken Scores Product Placement Deal with New James Bond Movie (Business Insider)
In the most recent James Bond film “Skyfall”, Heineken Beer has scored a product placement deal to have their beer represented as the Bond beverage of choice for an estimated £28 million. This is quite a coup for the Dutch Brewer as James Bond films have always been a benefit to the companies who are allowed to place products in them, as well to run campaign ads to go along with the movie.
There is always an upside to being associated with James Bond if you are a company trying to aim your product at an upscale market, as this British Spy is always seen as the world’s most sophisticated ladies’ man and the undisputed king of technical gadgets. This is evidenced by the fact that fact that since 1962 such consumer giants as Smirnoff, Rolex, BMW, and even Revlon cosmetics for Bond girls have paid top dollar for product placement in the movies.
In fact, movie placements for the James Bond films have been so successful that there is sometimes little financial investment needed for the film other than what the sponsors pay. Even so, for years movie goers have accused film makers and television producers alike for selling out and pandering to the companies that shamelessly place products in the movies they love - at the expense of the integrity of the film.
For example, in the 1963 James Bond film, “From Russia With Love,” James Bond flew American-based Pan Am to Russia (a destination where the domestic airline didn’t fly) for a lucrative product placement deal with no regard for the implausibility of the situation.
However, the fact of the matter is that without funding from major corporate sources like Heineken and Coca-Cola, a lot of these Hollywood movies would never get made. This is because quite frankly, without the marketing genius of Heineken, Rolex and BMW, James Bond is just another old guy at the end of the bar with a drink in his hand – “shaken and not stirred.”
I was looking for a writer based in the US and I'm pretty sure that Rick K is an international writer claiming to be from the US. He made typical grammar mistakes often found with writers that I have hired overseas and had to rewrite some.
