Project Goal
To create captivating and consistent illustrations for a 32-page robot exploration-themed children’s book, targeting children aged 5 to 7. All stories are written for the first four books including guidance for what needs to be shown on each page with the illustrations. The front cover for the first book has been created and will form the basis for the art throughout the book. It is important that your style of art and inline with the existing concept art. This will be provided on request.
Brand Guidelines
• The illustrations should align with the character design and contain hidden details throughout the book.
• The art should be educational, illustrating scientific concepts in an engaging manner while maintaining a light and humorous tone.
• Machinarium is a reference for the desired art style, with a focus on consistency, subtle shading, and engaging backgrounds.
• Capture the subtle, detailed shading and slightly macabre yet whimsical tone seen in Machinarium.
• Incorporate hidden elements in the background—such as creatures, insects, or objects—that encourage parents and children to explore each page together.
• Maintain a consistent style across all books to create a unique and recognizable identity for the Astro and Bob series.
Scope of Work
• Work with existing character art to maintain style consistency.
• Produce high-quality illustrations for 1 front cover and 1 back cover.
• Create 16 double-page spreads, totaling 32 pages of illustration.
• Ensure the artwork appeals to the target demographic of 5 to 7-year-olds.
• Illustrate scientific and educational concepts in an accessible and entertaining way.
• Book size: 8.5” x 8.5”.
Illustration Style
• Cartoon and comic, caricature, and stylized, with an emphasis on atmospheric, detailed backgrounds.
Artistic Technique
• Freehand digital, mixed media, pen and ink, inspired by the consistent and detailed style seen in Machinarium.
Age Group
• Early readers (3-7 years).
