Computer Programmer for Real Estate Web Scraper

Job Title: Computer Programmer (Web Scraper/Software Developer) Job Location: Remote Job Type: Contract Job Overview: We are looking for a skilled and self-motivated Computer Programmer to develop a software solution that will automate the process of collecting property tax delinquent data from public property records. The solution will allow for filtering and sorting between different property types (houses and land) and should extract specific property-related information including owner names, addresses, APN (Assessor’s Parcel Number), delinquency status, county details, lot size, assessed value, and market value. The ideal candidate should have experience building web scrapers, APIs, or data collection tools, with strong programming skills and a focus on extracting and organizing real estate data efficiently. Test Target Area: Iredell County, NC (would like to make this National over time) Key Responsibilities: Develop a software tool/web scraper/app that extracts property tax delinquent data from public sources (government websites, public tax records, etc.). Extract and filter specific property details such as: Property Information (address, APN) Owner Names and Mailing Addresses Tax Delinquency Status (confirmed) County of the property Lot size (in acres) County Assessed Value Market Value And any other necessary data points throughout the build Implement filtering and sorting functionality to distinguish between houses and land based on specific criteria (e.g., property type, lot size, zoning, etc.). Ensure data accuracy and reliability, verifying that the extracted data is correct and up-to-date with respect to the tax delinquency status. Develop an intuitive and user-friendly interface for users to search, filter, and view the collected data. Handle large datasets efficiently and ensure that the system can manage and process thousands of records, especially as tax delinquent lists are updated. Test, debug, and troubleshoot the software to ensure smooth operation and data extraction. Document code and provide training (if necessary) for users to understand how to use the software for extracting and filtering property data. Desired Features of the Software/App: Automated Data Collection: The tool should be able to collect the necessary data automatically and periodically (e.g., daily, weekly) from government websites. Data Export Capability: Users should be able to export filtered data in various formats (CSV, Excel, or database). Data Integrity Check: The software should verify that the property is indeed tax delinquent before collecting and storing the data. Customizable Filters: Allow the user to filter properties by county, delinquency status, lot size, assessed value, and market value. Web Interface/Interface Development: If the software is web-based, the user interface should be simple and intuitive. Performance: The scraper should be optimized to handle large-scale data collection efficiently. Qualifications: Proven experience in software development, web scraping, or building data collection tools. Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, PHP, or Ruby (Python and JavaScript are particularly common for web scraping). Experience with web scraping frameworks such as BeautifulSoup, Scrapy, Selenium, Puppeteer, or other similar tools. Familiarity with APIs for integrating external data sources (if applicable). Experience with databases (SQL, MongoDB, etc.) for storing and organizing extracted data. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and optimize code. Familiarity with cloud services (AWS, Google Cloud, etc.) for hosting or managing the software is a plus. Attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of data collection. Ability to work independently and efficiently, with minimal supervision. Strong communication skills for providing regular updates and collaborating with project managers or other team members. Preferred Skills: Experience working with property tax delinquent data or real estate data is a plus. Familiarity with data visualization tools to present the data in easy-to-understand formats Experience with data privacy laws and ensuring the software complies with applicable legal requirements (especially regarding public records). Understanding of how property records and tax assessments work in different counties and states. Education & Experience: Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field Experience in software development or web scraping projects. Experience in the real estate or public records industry is a plus.
