There are a couple different ways that come to mind to create this expandable box, including a locking mechanism for when the box is expanded. I have a over a decade of experience creating products with Solidworks, and many of those products get 3D printed with PLA plastic. I can make the cut out perfectly fit the size of the iPhone camera so that ambient light does not enter into the box.
