WooCommerce/Wordpress Amazon S3 Digital Download Error - eCommerce Website Debugging
£20-250 GBP
Paid on delivery
Customers and the website admin are encountering an issue where downloadable product links provided via WooCommerce are delivering a very small (471-byte) file instead of the actual file hosted on Amazon S3.
I am looking for someone who can work on this ASAP.
This issue:
- Affects all downloadable products.
- Occurs despite the files being intact on S3 and working correctly when accessed via a direct pre-signed URL.
- Likely involves a conflict or misconfiguration between the Amazon S3 Storage for WooCommerce plugin, the website, and possibly caching/CDN layers like Cloudflare.
2. Necessary Diagnostic Information
The following information is relevant for diagnosing and resolving the issue:
Website Details:
- Built with WordPress 6.7.1 and WooCommerce.
- Theme: Astra child theme.
Plugins related to the issue:
Amazon S3 Storage for WooCommerce.
SG Cache, Speed Optimizer, and Cloudflare for caching/CDN.
WooCommerce Settings:
- Products are configured as "downloadable" and "virtual."
- Files are linked via S3 shortcodes like [amazon_s3 bucket=l[bucket name] object=[product name].zip].
What Has Been Tested:
- S3 files are functional and intact when accessed directly using a pre-signed URL.
- Clearing all caches (SG Cache, Speed Optimizer, and Cloudflare) did not resolve the issue.
The workflow using the Amazon S3 plugin has been working for years but started failing recently.
Logs:
WordPress debug logging is not currently enabled, but access to server error logs (SiteGround hosting) is available.
3. Summary of What Needs Fixing
Identify the Root Cause:
Check for conflicts or misconfigurations with the Amazon S3 Storage for WooCommerce plugin.
Investigate whether caching layers (SG Cache, Speed Optimizer, Cloudflare) are interfering with the file download process.
Determine if WooCommerce's file delivery settings or the download handler are causing the issue.
Diagnose Plugin Behavior:
Confirm that the S3 shortcode system is generating valid download links.
Test direct integration with S3 using pre-signed URLs to verify plugin functionality.
Analyze Logs:
Enable and review WordPress debug logs for errors related to file downloads.
Check server logs (SiteGround hosting) for any errors or conflicts.
Fix the Issue:
Resolve any misconfigurations in the Amazon S3 plugin or WooCommerce settings.
Address caching/CDN issues (e.g., bypassing Cloudflare for downloads if needed).
Verify that downloadable products work seamlessly for customers without manual intervention.
Test the Solution:
Ensure files download correctly via WooCommerce links.
Test under normal conditions with caching/CDN enabled to confirm stability.
Expected Deliverables:
- Functional downloadable product links for all products.
- Documentation of changes made (plugin settings, code snippets, or server configuration adjustments).
- Recommendations to prevent similar issues in the future.
Full admin access to WordPress, hosting, and related services will be provided. Please enable and review WordPress debug logs for pertinent errors. Debugging will be performed on a staging site to avoid any interruptions to the live site. The solution should focus on configuration-based fixes to resolve the issue. Preference will be given to those with extensive experience in WooCommerce plugin debugging. Client will set up the staging site independently.
